The Sunday Post [37]

The Sunday Post is a weekly meme hosted by Kimberly at the Caffeinated Reviewer! It's an opportunity to share news, post a recap for the previous week, showcase books, and highlight what's planned for the week ahead.

News:

Please excuse any delayed posts while we're in the process of moving! We finalized our lease today (WE GOT THE HOUSE), and I only had to read through the paperwork three times. ๐Ÿ˜ฉ There were a few minor details that needed to be changed (like the previous renter's names on the pet addendum), and then signing was a hassle when Adobe decided it didn't want to work properly. We really love the house though, and the location is good (school district has a high rating, we're near an area with a lot of hiking, not too far from the beach). It's going to be great! I'm really looking forward to it. I just wish we could snap our fingers and be there, haha. Unfortunately, we still have the moving part to do.

Surprisingly, I've been getting a lot of reading done! I don't really know how it's happening, or when I find the time, but you'll get no complaints from me. Maybe the monsters are taking longer naps? I have a few reviews I need to write, and I'm really looking forward to sharing my thoughts with you! Where the Crawdads Sing was beautiful! It's easily one of my favorite reads this year.

Other than moving, there's not a lot going on in my life right now! I've been wearing shorts and t-shirts in January, but it's Texas, so. Oh! I got another tattoo: Lady Justice.

Operation Lady Justice to address Missing and Murdered Indigenous People Crisis was an article I read that really resonated with me. The artwork was done by a Choctaw artist named DG Smalling, and I fell in love with the image and what it represented. I think Cora captured it perfectly!

Previous week on the blog:
What I'm currently reading:

Tweet Cute by Emma Lord
Lair of Dreams (The Diviners, #2) by Libba Bray ๐ŸŽง
Jane Anonymous by Laurie Faria Stolarz
  • Tweet Cute is cute. Review tomorrow!
  • Lair of Dreams is spooky! I am thrilled to be back in the 20's with this amazing group of characters, and the narrator is the bees knees! Although, I am curious why Memphis hasn't been mentioned yet. He's okay, right??
  • Jane Anonymous is stressful and terrifying. I keep thinking, "What if that was my daughter?" I haven't read anything by Stolarz in ages, but her writing is incredibly powerful and really punches you in the feels.

What I plan on reading next:

A Queen in Hiding (The Nine Realms, #1) by Sarah Kozloff
What I Carry by Jennifer Longo

What I'm watching:

I recently watched Zoey's Extraordinary Playlist and really enjoyed it! She hears people's inner thoughts and feelings as songs that play out in front of her (there's a lot of singing and dancing). It's a really interesting concept. Also, this happened:
If you've seen Pitch Perfect you know who Skylar Astin is! This like totally made my week!

  6. Congrats (again) on the house! So glad that worked out. And now the fun begins... packing and unpacking. Gah! :) I’ve heard amazing things about Where the Crawdads Sing. My sister read it with her book club and raved about it but for some reason it just doesn’t call to me. I have Jane Anonymous on hold at the library. It sounds so powerful and emotional.

    1. Thank you! We're really excited! We're just waiting on the movers now. :) They give you a 5-7 day window (ridiculous), and we're just supposed to be around whenever they decide it's convenient for them. On top of that, they won't deliver when we need them to (weekend/holiday/something), so our stuff will arrive a week after we do. It's a headache. I'm ready to get it over and done with!

Where the Crawdad's Sing was just so... everything. I didn't think it would be my cup of tea either, but it was fantastic! I'm so happy I read it. Well, I did the audio... You might like that!

Jane Anonymous is killing me. :(

  7. Yay for the new house! At least you're excited to settle in, so maybe that will make your move a little less painful ๐Ÿ˜‰. I hope you little boy will love it there at the new school too.

    1. Nope. It's still going to be extremely painful. ;) 18 hours in a car with a five-year-old, and twin three-year-olds? I'm going to lose my mind! I really hope the school transition is easy for him. He has friends here, and I hate that he has to start all over. Hopefully, at this age it won't be as difficult.

  8. Congratulations on the house! I hope the move goes smoothly. You must be a pro at this by now. I saw your new tat on Instagram and love the inspiration. It's beautiful too. I am glad I passed on Jane Anonymous. I had a feeling it would be too much for me. You know I am all about the fluff

    1. Thanks! It's always hard when they pack up your furniture ad then you're without it for 2-3 weeks! They usually take everything a few days before we actually leave, and deliver it a week or so after you arrive. I have three small children, which means I really need my washer and dryer, haha. I do enjoy unpacking and finding places for everything. :)

I love my new tattoo! I'm really looking forward to taking the wrapping off tomorrow! Right now it's a black blob under the bandage. <3

Jane Anonymous is STRESSFUL. Zero fluff.

    1. I was so surprised when he liked my tweet! Literally did a double take! Haha. ;) Moving is a hassle, but necessary when you're in the military. I like getting to a new place and unpacking, but the actual moving... not so much. <3
