The Seven Endless Forests
by April Genevieve Tucholke
Expected publication: March 31st 2020
Synopsis (via Goodreads): In this gorgeous standalone companion to the critically acclaimed fantasy, The Boneless Mercies, April Tucholke spins a bold and blood-hungry retelling of the King Arthur legend that is perfect for fans of Naomi Novik, Garth Nix, and Laini Taylor.

On the heels of a devastating plague, Torvi’s sister, Morgunn, is stolen from the family farm by Uther, a flame-loving Fremish wolf-priest who leads a pack of ragged, starving girls. Torvi leaves the only home she’s ever known, and joins a shaven-skulled druid and a band of roaming Elsh artists known as the Butcher Bards. They set out on a quest to rescue Torvi’s sister, and find a mythical sword.

On their travels, Torvi and her companions will encounter magical night wilds and mystical Drakes who trade in young men. They will sing rowdy Elshland ballads in a tree-town tavern, and find a mysterious black tower in an Endless Forest. They will fight alongside famous Vorseland archers and barter with Fremish wizards. They will feast with rogue Jade Fell children in a Skal Mountain cave, and seek the help of a Pig Witch. They will face wild, dangerous magic that leads to love, joy, tragedy, and death.

Torvi set out to rescue a sister, but she may find it’s merely the first step toward a life that is grander and more glorious than anything she could have imagined.

  1. Yondu? Wow. There's old school. And what's Mary Jane up to??

Oh I don't remember have you read House of X/ Powers of X? I just read em and wow- talk about ambitious. I have mixed thoughts but overall- not bad.

    1. Jacob is really enjoying Yondu! He said it has a very interesting concept, and he's looking forward to reading more. Mary Jane is thriving on her own, living outside of Peter's shadow! She's actually working WITH supervillains right now, which is odd... Spider-Man pops up occasionally, but it's MJ's story. I like it so far!

I have officially given up on anything X-Men related. Excalibur, Fallen Angels, Marauders... it was UGH. I'm tired of hearing about Krakoa, too. Like, WE GET IT. ;)

  2. A King Arthur retelling? That sounds fun!

    1. I've noticed more authors attempting King Arthur-like retellings, but haven't read any myself. Genevieve? (I think I spelled that correctly!) There was another one, but I can't think of its title. However, this one caught my eye because I have The Boneless Mercies, which everyone has raved about. :)

  3. Seven Endless Forests looks good, both for the retelling element and the story itself. I'll keep an eye out for it.

    1. I don't read a lot of retellings, but I'm willing to give this one a shot! The story sounds really interesting, and I think I'll like it despite it being based on another story. :)

  4. This is the first I've heard of Seven Endless Forests but it sounds fun! I love King Arthur tales/re-tellings!

    1. I don't usually go for retellings, but I have enjoyed a few! Which King Arthur retellings have you read?

  5. I love the artwork on the Stranger Things GRs but people haven't seemed to like the stories very much, so I'm still on the fence. ๐Ÿ˜ฏ

    1. I hadn't heard that! I hate when a story doesn't live up to people's expectations, especially when it's based on something else people love.
