The Sunday Post [82]

The Sunday Post is a weekly meme hosted by Kimberly at the Caffeinated Reviewer! It's an opportunity to share news, post a recap for the previous week, showcase books, and highlight what's planned for the week ahead.

News

We’ve had warmer weather this week! I actually shaved my legs so I could wear shorts today. ๐Ÿ˜‚ The snow is almost completely melted, but that means we’ll have a muddy yard for a few days. I know the chickens are thrilled to not have single-digit temps at night.

The kids and I had a little adventure on Saturday after my son’s soccer practice. We tried a place called The Happy Cow for lunch. It was good, but a bit on the expensive side. I absolutely devoured my burger, and the fries are apparently fried in beef tallow, which gave them an interesting taste. After eating, we stumbled across a Goodwill I’d never been to, so of course we had to go inside. We left with a few knickknacks that I’m really jazzed about.

On our way home, we made a pit stop at the library to drop off books, pick up holds, and update my reading challenge. It’s Edgar Allan Poe–themed, and you track how many hours you’ve read to earn entries. The grand prize is a gorgeous blanket tapestry with crows on it. For reading 20 hours, I received a pin and keychain, and for 40 hours, I was given a mug that reveals a Poe-themed image when hot. Pretty cool! The challenge goes through the end of February, so I'll keep you updated on whether I win or not.

What I'm Watching
I recently started Reign of the Seven Spellblades, but so far I’m not thrilled with it. Two of the kids in the group had a MAJOR insta-love moment—so much so that even the other characters commented on it. “The two of you crossed swords and just knew you were meant to be together,” or some such nonsense. It was described as a dark academia with Harry Potter vibes, but so far it’s mostly been partial nudity and an obnoxious bunch of kids doing magical stuff.

Challenge Updates
  • Audiobook Challenge: 3 / 30
  • Goodreads Challenge: 14 / 100
  • Physical TBR: 0 / 25
  • NetGalley: 30 / 50
  • Discussion Post Challenge: 0 / 20
Copy and paste from last week: I guess I need to make more of an effort with my Physical TBR and Discussion Post challenges! Good Spirits is a physical book, so I should at least have 1/25 by next weekend. I also have a few discussion post ideas planned out, and I'm hoping to post at least one of them this week.

I hope you have a wonderful week! Happy reading!

  2. I love thrift store shopping! I usually find a book or 5... and yes, good loot sometimes too! My cats are usually so happy after a spell of cold temps so I can understand how you're chickens would be so happy too! I look forward to your discussion post!

    1. I finally got the discussion post up! One is better than none, lol. We went to another thrift store on Valentine's Day and found sooooo many good books. I also found some really amazing plates/bowls that were hand painted in Italy. Two of them are MASSSIVE and I plan on using them with my plants when we move. I can't have any on the floor right now because my son's cat is obnoxious and tries to eat them. I'm keeping my fingers crossed for a sunroom in our next house. ๐Ÿคž๐Ÿผ

    1. It was craziness! The weather here is so up and down. I really love hanging out with my kids! I know they won't always want to, so I'm trying to enjoy it while it lasts.

  7. Well, I'm guessing you are probably not really putting on shorts!

  8. Our standards are low this year. It was 33 and I was cheering about it being above freezing. LOL! What a nice program your library does, and hooray for you with all your new prizes.

    1. Right? I got excited about 42 this week. ๐Ÿ˜‚ I'm ready for summer! No school and hot weather sounds absolutely amazing right now. I need to turn in the rest of my reading hours before the challenge ends so I get more entries!

  9. haha! Even though it won't be warm enough for shorts any time soon, I will be going to Florida in a couple weeks. I need a pedicure! I miss going on adventures with my kiddos. So much fun to see what we could find. Yea!

  12. I hope the warmer weather sticks around for awhile! I love that name--The Happy Cow. Oh! I bet that grand prize for the reading challenge is beautiful! I really like crow-themed items. The overall Edgar Allan Poe theme sounds fun!

I am glad I took a peek at your review of Graceless Heart. I am interested in that one and it's good to know about the ending--or lack there of. I thought it was a stand alone too. I hope you are enjoying your current reads. I have my eyes on The Somewhat Wicked Witch of Brigandale as something I may want to add to my wish list.

That's too bad about Reign of the Seven Spellblades. If you continue with it and end up liking it, let us know so I know whether I will watch it.

I hope you have a good weekend. Take care, Lindsi!

    1. The weather has been so up and down the last few weeks. We'll go up or drop 20-25 degrees in a single say. I think it's supposed to snow on Friday and I really hope it doesn't.

The Happy Cow was good and I really want to win the crow blanket!

Graceless Heart was disappointing. I know other people have loved it, but I just had too many issues with the overall story and characters. I also don't like when a book is marketed as one thing and then ends up being something else.

Reign of the Seven Spellblades has not improved, lol.

  13. That reading challenge award for your library sounds so neat! We had a mug again this year, and it's cute, but not as cool as others we've had in the past. Great job on your challenges so far too! Sorry I'm late commenting back, it has been a week for me! Hoping to get back to commenting better this upcoming week.

    1. I love how much our library does! Whenever I get book mail that has a lot of advertising materials and merchandise, I usually give it to them to use. You can see how late I am responding to comments... ๐Ÿ˜… Life happens.
