The Sunday Post [84]

The Sunday Post is a weekly meme hosted by Kimberly at the Caffeinated Reviewer! It's an opportunity to share news, post a recap for the previous week, showcase books, and highlight what's planned for the week ahead.

News

I wish every weekend were a three-day weekend! I feel like I actually get to rest and reset, while still getting everything done that I need to (grocery shopping, cleaning around the house, dog baths, etc.). It’s amazing what one extra day can do. I’ve also been doing a lot of baking and have a few new recipes I want to try! Please share any bread suggestions - that's my current fixation.

We went to the library this week (for emotional support) and I grabbed A LOT of books. I'm going to pause on my ARC reads this week to tackle this stack before they're due back. A few of them are books I received for review on NetGalley ages ago and never got to, so I will still be making some progress on my goals.

Work was better this week. Friday was a little rough (I blame it on being the 13th). We didn’t have a Valentine’s Day party, but I did let them exchange cards at the end of the day. One student brought handmade cards, and another student made fun of them for it. Kids can be so mean sometimes. ๐Ÿ˜”

Speaking of Valentine’s Day, my husband got me delicious cupcakes! We ate them all in a single day. It’s hard to pick a favorite, but if you’re twisting my arm, I’d say the red velvet was best.

What I'm Watching

I hope you have a wonderful week! Happy reading!

  1. Hooray for a thee day weekend! Looks like your working your way through Rachel Hawkins books, so I'll be eager to read your reviews.

Isn't it a shame the way kids can act sometimes? Especially directed toward someone who was doing something sweet and thoughtful.

    1. I've been meaning to catch up on her books for a while! I've seen mixed reviews for Reckless Girls, but I'm hoping I enjoy it. :)

4th grade is a tough year for kids. ๐Ÿ˜”

  3. I know what you mean about having an extra day–I usually have a 1.5-day weekend (although this weekend I worked a full day on Saturday, so it was just a 1-day weekend), and I always savor whenever I have Saturday off! Big library book hauls are just the best, aren't they?!

    1. Yes! I love coming home with a stack of library books. Getting even one extra day — or half a day — makes such a difference. Normally I feel like I have to choose between getting things done or resting, but with an extra day I'm able to do both.

  4. I loved those wonderful three-day weekends when I was working, too. I'm glad you got time to rest and relax.

It's sad to me that a child was teased because of homemade cards.

    1. Me too! I took personal days and get a four day weekend this weekend. :)

4th grade is a rough year for kids, but that's no excuse for them to treat each other poorly.

Gah. I hope you found a way to make the mean one understand that handmade cards are a form of art (or craft at least).

That's quite the stack of books! I love how you managed to weave your NG goals into your library haul ๐Ÿ˜‰.

    1. I spent all this week focusing on kindness since they clearly needed the reminder. And thank you! It worked out really well. :)

  9. I’m sad to hear about the child being teased - there always seems to be one bad seed in every classroom. The cupcakes looked delicious!

    1. The cupcakes made my day!

It's not necessarily that there's a bad seed... kids today don't have any social emotional skills. They don't know how to handle conflict or express how they're feeling in a constructive way. They go home and sit in front of a screen and rarely engage with people face-to-face.

  10. Love your library haul! Those are some great books. Happy Tuesday!

  11. Yay for a three day weekend! I was sick, so it wasn't much for me. Kids can be mean! I hope that kid with the homemade cards didn't feel too upset by the teasing! Those cupcakes are so pretty. I loved Bride. Hope you do, too!

    1. I hope you're feeling better! Being sick is the worst. You can't rest or get anything done. We were able to problem solve with the Valentine's Day cards and it all worked out in the end. :)

I finished Bride last night and loved it! I haven't read a book that fast in ages.

  15. Yes! I am onboard with a 3/4 work schedule. I think I heard they tried that in Scotland (?). No additional hours, no cut in pay. Yes, we need that. Kids can be mean, but that kid will be appreciated one day

    1. That sounds amazing! I would gladly work extra Monday - Thursday just to have a longer weekend every week. Kids can be mean, but it was a learning opportunity for the class and I think they both gained something from the experience. It was unfortunate that it happened, but I'm hoping a lesson was learned.
