The Sunday Post [81]

The Sunday Post is a weekly meme hosted by Kimberly at the Caffeinated Reviewer! It's an opportunity to share news, post a recap for the previous week, showcase books, and highlight what's planned for the week ahead.

News

Hello lovelies! This week went by fast with the holiday on Monday. The weather hit Friday afternoon and has been steadily dropping since. We dipped into the negatives yesterday with some snow and I don't think I'll ever be warm again. We've kept a fire burning in our little woodstove which has helped, and we're doing our best to stay bundled up and cozy. Our poor chickens don't want to leave their coop and only come into the run for a few minutes to get food and water.

We started a new family D&D campaign last night and didn't make it very far before my kids resorted to trickery and thieving to get what they wanted. I stayed quiet this time to see what they would do on their own. Clearly they still need guidance, lol. I caught my husband laughing several times at their ridiculousness. He has this entire thing planned out and we never do what he's expecting. He's a good DM though and we're having a lot of fun with it.

What I'm Watching
I'm back to watching Frieren: Beyond Journey's End in my spare time. I'm really enjoying it! The slower pace, the animation, the characters—all of it! I also plan on finishing the new season of Shield Hero soon, but I have to wait and watch it with my son or he gets upset. ๐Ÿ™„

Challenge Updates
  • Audiobook Challenge: 3 / 30
  • Goodreads Challenge: 12 / 100
  • Physical TBR: 0 / 25
  • NetGalley: 28 / 50
  • Discussion Post Challenge: 0 / 20
I guess I need to make more of an effort with my Physical TBR and Discussion Post challenges! Good Spirits is a physical book, so I should at least have 1/25 by next weekend. I also have a few discussion post ideas planned out, and I'm hoping to post at least one of them this week.

I hope you have a wonderful week! Happy reading!

  1. Family D&D sounds like a ton of fun. It is cold. I sit on my electric blanket for warmth, and it is tough when I leave it. Stay warm, have fun, good job with your reading challege - 12 books!

    1. A few of them were children's books that have sat on my NetGalley Shelf for YEARS. I figured it would be easy to read them and knock those reviews out. I have a heating pad, but an electric blanket sounds so much better! We're really enjoying playing D&D as a family, but I know my son wants to find a group to play with.

  2. How's Good Spirits? I keep seeing that around at the moment. Hope you're enjoying!

I keep thinking about checking out the Frieren manga! I just need to get round to it... ahaha. So many books, so little time.

  3. My husband and I don't get holidays off, so I had to stop and think back to Monday for a second when you said it's been a short week lol! Your family D&D campaign sounds so fun! I've never gotten into D&D, but I have a bunch of friends who enjoy it.

    1. Boooo. I'm sorry you don't get holidays off. It's definitely one of the perks of being a teacher. My husband gets the major holidays, so he wasn't off on Monday. You should give D&D a try. It might surprise you!

  4. Sounds like fun! Yeah our weather hit yesterday, just a slow, gradual buildup. Friday was tamed so I managed to get my errands run then and yesterday I chilled at home with a book and TV!

Hope you have a great week ahead!

    1. We didn't have the winter storm I was expecting, but we did get a decent amount of snow. They didn't cancel church or school, and we didn't lose power or get so buried we couldn't get ourselves out. I was really hoping for another snow day. ๐Ÿ˜…

  5. Good luck with the low temps, and stay warm! I hate that feeling of "I'll never be warm again," so I know what you mean!

    1. It was in the low 50's today and I LOVED it! I sat in my car and read my book while the kids played at the park. I rolled the windows down and soaked in the warm sunshine.

    1. I hope you survived your blizzard! My parents lost electricity for a few days and got a couple of days off work, but we carried on like normal here. Good Spirits is really good! Definitely move it up your TBR.

  8. My daughter-in-law raises chickens, and it is the chickens she is worried about most during this horribly cold weather.

I am curious about Good Spirits!

    1. I cuddled with my dogs and kept several layers of clothes on at all times, lol. We've had higher temps this week and I'm so thankful for the warmth. Maybe all of this snow will finally melt!

    1. This week has been in the high 40's and low 50's, so that's definitely been nice. We have below freezing temps in the morning, but at least it warms up as the day goes on.

  12. We love having our woodstove going in the cold, too! It's basically going from the end of October through end of March here! It does keep things nice and toasty. I love that you're making the most of the cold weather by playing games with the whole family! Hope you (and your chickens) stay warm and safe!

  14. I love that you have a family game night. We never got into D&D but we did play board and card games when the kids were younger (they are both away in college now). It's also been very cold here and we got dumped on Sunday and even some on Monday. I'm glad I didn't have any place to go.
