The Sunday Post [19]

The Sunday Post is a weekly meme hosted by Kimberly at the Caffeinated Reviewer! It's an opportunity to share news, post a recap for the previous week, showcase books, and highlight what's planned for the week ahead.

News:

Our washing machine is still broken, but I refuse to talk about it anymore, haha. The new new part came in, so we scheduled a time for them to replace it, but no one showed up. They're closed over the weekend, so I won't have any answers until Monday (this has been going on for nearly a month now).

It's been over a year, but I finally got a pedicure! I convinced my pseudo-parents to watch the little monsters for an hour or so, and they did a fun scavenger hunt while I was gone (and brought their nature finds home, haha). I love my kiddos, but it was lovely having a moment to myself. My feet look amazing, and I was able to read uninterrupted (mostly) for about an hour. Yay!

I've started really working out again (kickboxing and PIIT28), so I've been adjusting my eating habits this week (more green, less microwave). I'm a huuuuge fan of snacks, and could eat an entire bag of chips with salsa in one sitting, so I'm trying to keep healthier snack foods in the house. I'll spend forever making well-balanced meals for the kids, but then heat something up for myself. It's easier to do it that way, and faster (with the exception of dinner, which we all eat together).

I'm also staying on top of my review books, which has been amazing, and it's also given me time to read other books that I've neglected. I'm currently working my way through the backlogged books on NetGalley and made a lot of progress yesterday! Unfortunately, some of those were DNFs, but at least they're not just sitting there anymore. What does your NetGalley percentage look like?

Previous week on the blog:

Sunday: The Sunday Post [18]
Monday: The Unhoneymooners by Christina Lauren ⋆⋆⋆⋆⋆
Tuesday: Nothing!
Wednesday: Nothing!
Friday: There's Something About Sweetie (Dimple and Rishi, #2) by Sandhya Menon ⋆⋆⋆⋆

What I'm currently reading:

Fairest (The Lunar Chronicles, #3.5) by Marissa Meyer
Beware the Night (Beware the Night, #1) by Jessika Fleck
Star-Crossed by Minnie Darke

I finished The Lunar Chronicles earlier this year, and totally forgot to read Fairest before reading Winter. The audiobook was available through my library, and I decided it was finally time to fully finish the series. I doubt Levana's story will make me sympathetic, but it might offer some insight that would make me more understanding. Also, Rebecca Soler! She's an amazing narrator.

What I plan on reading next:

I Spy the Boy Next Door by Samantha Armstrong
Girl Gone Viral by Arvin Ahmadi
Hope and Other Punchlines by Julie Buxbaum

What I'm watching:

I've been keeping up with Game of Thrones, but I'm just so disappointed with this season. Everything feels rushed, which might be why certain things seem uncharacteristic. Does anyone know why they chose to do the final season in six episodes? Finales usually require more, right?

I did love how they chose to end The Big Bang Theory! This show has been a part of my life for so long, it's crazy to think it's not going to be there anymore. Twelve years is insane!

Challenge updates:

Audiobook Challenge: 21 / 30+
Beat the Backlist Challenge: 27 / 100
Discussion Challenge: 2 / 11-20
Goodreads Challenge: 162 / 500

I hope everyone is having an amazing weekend! Don't forget to enter the giveaway for All Our Broken Pieces by L.D. Crichton. :)

  1. I definitely cried a little during the Big Bang finale! I can't imagine it not coming back in the fall.

    1. Right?? It's always been there! It's going to be so weird. I really did love the final episode. I thought it was the perfect ending for a show that's been around for over a decade. :)

  2. I am going to be thinking about you and your washer and sending good healing thoughts to it. Let's hope they get it right this time. I loved the new Buxbaum, so I hope you do too. I was a huge fan of Ahmadi's debut, but sci-fi is not really my thing, so I passed on his new book. I am curious to see what you think.

    1. My washing machine issues had be on the phone for two hours this morning! He was supposed to come by on Friday, but he never called or showed. This will be my first Buxbaum! I'm on the waitlist at my library for her first book. This is also my first Ahmadi, so I don't have anything else to compare it to. :)

  3. I'm sorry to hear the washer is still caput. ๐Ÿ˜ž

I always find it strange that people try to start conversations with someone who is reading a book. I guess that means they are not a reader. Ha ha. ๐Ÿ”ฐ

I am still loving on that cover of Beware the Night. ๐Ÿ‘✨

    Have a wonderful week. ๐ŸŒž

    1. This washing machine business has been a total nightmare. It got even worse this morning, ugh. A month! Can you believe this has been going on for a month now? Blargh.

Haha! That was my thought as well. I assumed she wasn't a reader since she couldn't tell how engrossed I was in my book. It would always take her a few tries to catch my attention, which wasn't intentional, just what happens when I zone out. ;)

Beware the Night was good! I had a few issues with the story, but an okay read overall. And you're right! The cover is lovely. <3

  4. You always need to make time for yourself and how great that you were able to get some reading done too. Hope you have a great week!

    1. I'm always too tired or too busy before bed, and they don't take very long naps (and I usually spend those cleaning anyways), so it was nice to just sit and read for an hour. I really need to start making more time for myself, but it's always hard to find time.

  5. Always make time for yourself too! I'm sure your kids love you enough they won't mind sometimes lol! Hope the washer gets fixed soon, two others I know had theirs break on them too!

    1. It's been a month since the washing machine first stopped working! It's crazy. Someone was supposed to come out of Friday with the replacement for the replacement part, but they never showed up. I called before they closed, was assured he'd be there that afternoon, and then nothing. This morning I still didn't get a call, and when I called them, I was told he'd left a note saying he couldn't get in touch with me. This is not true, as I was waiting for him to show up and even called about it, so naturally I was upset. After speaking with various people, I was told it would be Wednesday before someone else could make it out. Not cool. I'm going to call the warranty people at Lowe's and file an official complaint about this entire debacle.

    1. Thanks! It was really nice. I don't often splurge on myself, because I'd rather spend the money on the kids, but it was an enjoyable hour of mostly quiet. :)

  7. Let me know what you think of Fairest! I loved the book but it didn't change my opinion much.

I've been starting to workout again and I'm getting my hair done Wednesday. It's scary to find a new hairdresser lol But I'm getting so grey I had to cave.

    1. Having to find a new hairdresser is one of the worst things about moving! It takes me forever to find someone that does it exactly how I want, so I understand your fear. It just takes one bad haircut to really ruin the next few months of your life, haha (totally not exaggerating). ;) I'll let you know as soon as I'm finished with Fairest! Did you read them or do the audio? I'm assuming read, but you have been listening to more audiobooks lately! <3

  8. I taped the Big Bang Theory finale, so I still need to watch that. Yay for getting a pedicure and having some "alone" time. That's always needed!

  9. Oooh, look forward to seeing what you think of HOpe and Other Punchlines.
I am also trying to eat more healthily this summer - goodbye delicious buttered toast, hello oatmeal. So we will see how that goes hahaha

    1. Hah! I deliciously butter my oatmeal, too, so I don't think that would help as much! ;) I butter and sugar my oatmeal until it's almost too sweet. I'm about to start Hope and Other Punchlines! I was trying to finish Girl Gone Viral first, but I've been distracted. The washing machine, my son's last soccer game, all this extra rain -- too many things vying for space in my brain. <3

    1. My washing machine problems are hopefully way, way behind me! Since it was taking the appliance company so long to repair the machine, and they were giving pretty crappy excuses for some of the delays (I'll expand more on this experience next Sunday), Lowe's decided to just buy me a new one instead. They're still dealing with the appliance company, but thankfully that's behind me. Yay for being able to wash clothes! ;)

  11. I so hear you about the snacking. Especially when I'm on my laptop and blogging or commenting, I would have a bag of chips next to me that I would pick from. Rather than stop snacking, I just choose healthier alternatives now like rice cakes or rice crackers and make sure I eat breakfast most days. When you're running around with little ones all day and as active as you are, it's important to still refuel.

The bloody washing machine! It's time to go Hulk and throw it at the service repair guy when he finally gets his shit together and arrives. You've got the patience of a saint I tell you.

    1. Truth. I feel like I need to do something with my mouth when I'm blogging, commenting, or writing. If not, I tend to grind my teeth without realizing it. It's not until I feel like my jaw is about to pop off that I actually notice. Chips are my weakness! Hmm -- I'll have to try rice cakes in the near future and see if they work for me.

I try really, really hard to eat breakfast every day, but it doesn't always work out. I get food for the kids, and then I feed the animals while they're eating, and then they're done by the time I am, so it feels like a waste of time to try and make something else for myself. I'll drink my coffee and wait until an appropriate lunch time, haha.

I was on the phone for TWO HOURS yesterday, because the guy was a no-show on Friday. He said he called, which he didn't, and he also didn't leave a voicemail. Since he said I didn't answer, he didn't come. After talking with the company, and her refusing to check his call log or question him at all, I went back through Lowe's. They talked to the appliance company, blah blah blah, and then they decide that I've waited a month for this to be resolved, shit isn't working, and they gave me a new one. I CAN DO LAUNDRY AGAIN! It's pretty much all I've done for two days.

  12. Oh no, I hope they'll come by soon and fix your washing machine! Hooray on getting a pedicure and having a moment to yourself while getting some reading done. That's amazing that you're staying on top of your review copies! Sorry to hear they're DNFs though. I'm currently sitting around 85-90%? I try not to check if I can, haha.

    1. My washing machine troubles are hopefully behind me (please see previous comment, haha). A few were DNFs, which I think is why my brain subconsciously pushed them to the back of the line. ;) There have been a few great reads, too. Occasionally, I'll request books on a whim, and they don't always work out. Nice average! I'm getting there. <3

Fingers crossed when you update this week that your washing machine is fixed!
