The Sunday Post [18]

The Sunday Post is a weekly meme hosted by Kimberly at the Caffeinated Reviewer! It's an opportunity to share news, post a recap for the previous week, showcase books, and highlight what's planned for the week ahead.

News:

For those of you that tuned in last week, my washing machine is still broken. The parts arrived, the machine was serviced, and everyone was happy. However, two loads later and my laundry room was flooded. There was water everywhere! The machine itself still works, so I guess I could technically wash clothes, but at the expense of my floor and many towels (which also means more laundry). When I called them about the problem (on the same day), I was told that I had to make another request through Lowe's (who we have our warranty with), and that they didn't have anything open until next week.

I feel like someone should have been able to come back out, since it wasn't repaired properly the first time. I've been without a solid working washer for two weeks now, and it's making me crazy. My eye is twitching!

I really like rain, but I feel like I haven't seen the sun in a month. My son's last three soccer games were cancelled, and he hasn't been able to practice either. We've also had storms and tornados, which prevented us from visiting in-laws the other day. My MIL called and told me it took her over an hour to get home, and it typically takes her fifteen minutes. There were trees down and a lot of people still don't have power. We went two nights without electricity, but it was on during the day. I slept terribly without the fan on in the room, but at least I was able to cook and use appliances during the day (with the exception of my washing machine, ugh).

On a more positive note, I've been getting a lot of things done. My house is CLEAN, I've been READING, and the monsters and I have been having FUN! I think I've finally found my rhythm. During the week I don't stress about housework, and focus only on getting through the day and doing essentials (dishes, sweeping, laundry (hahahaha)), and devote Saturday to everything else (mopping, dusting, bathrooms, etc.). It's been working well! I feel better about life, even though messes still make me twitchy.

As for my reading, I'm on schedule and getting ahead! I don't have reviews written in advance, but that's okay. I'm happy with where I am. I've nearly finished The Unhoneymooners, and it's been a riot so far! My NetGalley average is almost back to 80%, and I'm completely caught up on my comics.

My dad didn't have to work on Friday, so we took the kids to a trampoline park. The kids and I have been before, but I've never taken all three solo. Surprisingly, we had the place to ourselves, and the monsters went wild! They loved that Pops was there to play with them, and my dad kept trying to do front flips into the whatever you call it... it's inflatable and absorbs the impact of your jump... but then you have to crawl for days to get out? When my dad and I got tired, there was a huge playground area for the youngsters, which allowed us to rest for a few minutes (jumping nonstop is exhausting).

My dad did bust his ass once, and it was hilarious once I made sure he was alive and not broken (my mother would have murdered me). He stayed on the floor for a few minutes, but was unharmed. I think his brain told him he could do something that he physically wasn't able to do anymore (a small ninja course). We really had fun, and I enjoyed getting out of the house with the kids. Normally, we spend most of our time outside, but the rain... wow this really got away from me. Sorry for the long news portion of this post! ;)

Previous week on the blog:

Monday: Every Last Breath (Final Hour, #1) by Juno Rushdan ⋆⋆⋆⋆
Tuesday: Under the Moon: A Catwoman Tale by Lauren Myracle, Isaac Goodhart (Illustrator) ⋆⋆⋆
Thursday: All Our Broken Pieces by L.D. Crichton [Blog Tour: Review + Giveaway] ⋆⋆⋆⋆⋆
Friday: Nothing!
Saturday: Nothing!

What I'm currently reading:
 The Unhoneymooners by Christina Lauren
Spinning Silver by Naomi Novik
The Looking Glass Wars (The Looking Glass Wars, #1) by Frank Beddor

I'm really enjoying The Unhoneymooners! I've laughed out loud multiple times, which isn't helpful when I'm trying to get the kids to take a nap or go to sleep for the night. I'll try to suppress a giggle, but then it continues to be funny until I cackle. If you've read this... The Bathroom of Doom destroyed me. Laughter was unavoidable.

Spinning Silver is my current audiobook, and it's been interesting so far. I'm only a few chapters in, but I'm already really curious about whatever is hidden in the woods. Why does the road move? Why do they leave frost behind?

The Looking Glass Wars is a series I read years ago, although I don't think I ever read the third book. I thought it would be fun to read this one with my son, but I had forgotten how violent it was. I kept having to skim paragraphs, so I'll probably re-read this one on my own and find something else to read with my son.

What I plan on reading next:
Star-Crossed by Minnie Darke
There's Something About Sweetie (Dimple and Rishi, #2) by Sandhya Menon
Hazel and Holly by Sara C. Snider

What I'm watching:

Nothing really... random YouTube videos when I can't sleep.

Challenge updates:

Audiobook Challenge: 20 / 30+
Discussion Challenge: 2 / 11-20

I hope everyone is having an amazing week! Also, you should definitely read All Our Broken Pieces by L.D. Crichton. I seriously have no complaints. It was beautiful and perfect!

  1. Oh wow- I'm so sorry to hear that. That is CRAZY. And the weather too- it's been so chilly here, we just can't seem to get nice weather except for an occasional day or two, but sounds like you guys have had it WAY worse so I won't even complain lol! Hope you get some sun SOON.

Glad your dad didn't hurt himself on the ninja course! :)

I've been seeing The Unhoneymooners everywhere. Gld it was good. :)

    1. Everything is so wet! The playgrounds, soccer fields, even our little garden in the backyard is flooded and full of water. My laundry room is flooded, but for entirely different reasons, haha. Bring on the sunshine!

My dad said he was sore but okay, so yay. I don't know what I would have done if he'd broken something.

I'm halfway through The Unhoneymooners! It's funny! :)

    1. I own Uprooted but haven't read it yet! I plan on reading it this year, but the audio for Spinning Silver was available and I jumped on it. I'm really enjoying it so far! :)

I'm guessing you've read Uprooted? What did you think?

    2. I LOVED Uprooted, I've read it twice already. It felt so magical and the ending was one of my favorites in a book of all times.

This summer I tried reading Spinning Silver but it was on my Kindle and I didn't feel it all the way. I got the hardback copy on my birthday and I hope to read it soon :)

    3. You know a book is good when you want to read it again! You've made me even more excited about Uprooted. I'm slowly working my way through Spinning Silver and it's wonderful! I'm about 27% into it, and everything just changed pretty drastically. I cannot wait to see where the story goes from here!

    1. Hey, I'm totally okay with a clean house. I did massive amounts of laundry at my mother's house the other day, and since it wasn't a laundromat I didn't have to stay. The kiddos and I ran errands and my mom switched loads for me. My dryer still works, so we just took a bunch of wet clothes home, haha. At least they were clean, and it kept us from having to abuse my parent's washing machine too much. ;)

Twitchy eye would be the least of my symptoms if I was dealing with the washer drama... I seriously salute you because that is not on! I don't know how you're staying sane. All the clothes...
I've never been to a trampoline park but the kid has a 12ft one in the back garden which we can both jump on and it's always fun. I need to see if there's an actual park near us... Glad you and your dad had such a good time with the kiddies.

Yes! Trampoline parks are so much fun! They have basketball, dodgeball, obstacle courses, swings... it just depends on where you go. All of it's bouncy and great! <3

  6. That's a dang bummer your washing machine is still freaking broken!! What the heck!! Did a tornado touch down in your area? I live in an area with tornadoes too, but thankfully we haven't had any touch down near us this year yet.

I have Spinning Silver on my shelves I'll be curious to see your thoughts on it. And I need to read The Unhoneymooners ASAP!!

    Have a great week!!

Ugh, I know! I really wish the guy had been able to come back out the same day, but it is what it is. Hopefully, fingers crossed, it is completely and totally resolved tomorrow.

  7. Oh man! The washer situation sounds like a nightmare. Do you have a laundromat you can go to nearby? With kids, I imagine you have a TON of clothes to wash too. I hope they come and fix it soon!
The weather here has been really annoying too. I just don't know how to dress. Your dad sounds so cute. I'm glad he was okay though haha!

    1. There's no way I'm taking a five-year-old and two-year-old twins to a laundromat. It's not worth it, haha! I'd rather have dirty laundry. ;) Yes, with three kids and myself, there's a lot of dirty clothes. However, the dogs are equally messy, so they should share the blame.

In the morning we need light jackets, but my noon we need shorts and sleeveless shirts. It's bananas. An umbrella needs to be nearby at all times, too. My dad was awesome at the trampoline park! He's so great with the kids, and they adore him. I'm really happy he wasn't injured! I have a video of the incident, which my mom will treasure for eternity. <3

  9. Your SP is always hilarious...although at your expenses LOL. Sorry! But I love it how you manage to stay upbeat and find the funny angle even in not-funny situations.

Appliances nowadays...I swear they're built in a way that, when one single small part breaks, you'd better throw them away and buy a new one right away than fix them - regardless of the warranty. Washing machines are LIFE (even more if you have kids) - not being able to do your own laundry is a nightmare! But I suppose you could still do it and flood the place - your little monsters would probably love it! ๐Ÿ˜‰

All that rain sucks, too. We're having a crazy May as well - much colder than average, with occasional but still too frequent rain, and annoying wind EVERY. SINGLE. DAY. Bear in mind that I'm on the seaside...other places have had SNOW. In May ๐Ÿ˜ฒ.

Glad your dad is alive and well despite his little adventure LOL - he must be a really cool guy!

    1. I don't mind laughing at my own expense. :) I try to look for the positives, because life it too short to be angry all the time. Yes, I could be mad about the washing machine, but what would that accomplish? It's not going to fix it any faster, and the only people that would see me angry are the kids. They deserve better than that, so I try to be better. It's easy to find joy when they're around!

I feel like appliances are built to last until your warranty expires, haha. It's how they force you to buy a new one every few years. ;) You're right, they would probably love a watery house, but since we rent this... not going to happen. Mama wants her security deposit back. We do have tons of laundry. I swear my children are like mud magnets -- they always find a way to get dirty! It's okay though, part of being a kid!

Seaside sounds fun! Not the frequent rain and crazy wind, but the seaside part, haha. Does it smell amazing?? Texas had snow in April a few years ago. It was bananas!

My dad is pretty awesome! He enjoys spending time with the kids, even when they're doing things he's too old to do. He tried to skateboard the other day... :(

      Delete
    2. Ha! Adventurous dad! ๐Ÿ˜‰

I wouldn't say the seaside smells amazing...you inhale a salty smell sometimes, depending on the wind, but you have to be right over the coastline.

I did that with my son and The Wizard of Oz when he was five, I didn't remember it being that violent and I was editing as I read. I was glad he wasn't interested in continuing the series because I re-read them all a couple of years ago and they also get increasingly racist. ๐Ÿ˜’

    1. ME TOO! I wash at least two loads of laundry every day, so a working washing machine is a necessity. Oh! I totally forgot about The Wizard of Oz being dark. It's been ages since I've read that one. It's crazy how our perspectives change over time. I would rather not skip and skim when I'm reading aloud to the kids, so we'll read something else. :)

  13. Ugh, I think I would lose my mind if I had to do without a washing machine that long. I agree that someone should have immediately come back out since they didn't properly repair it the first time. I'm glad to hear that you're in a good rhythm right now in your life. We have major purging projects planned to clean out several rooms of our house this summer and I'm hoping that it jump starts me to get back into a better groove too.

    1. Right?? It's not my fault they left without confirming it worked well. I know he couldn't stay through an entire load of laundry, but he could have at least made himself available in case it didn't work.

I'm really enjoying this rhythm! My only complaint is sleeping... the girls are starting to fight naps and bedtime. I think it's a growth spurt or teething, since their appetites have been off as well. Hopefully that passes soon, since I typically do a lot of my housework and dinner preparations while they're napping.

Good luck cleaning! I don't like to keep anything we don't use, so I'll randomly go through toys, clothes, and other household items and make a donation. I always feel lighter when the house only had the things we need and use. Have fun! ;)

    1. I try to see it from their perspective! He replaced what he thought was broken (after it took a few days for the parts to arrive, and for Lowe's to come to a decision), and then he left. I called as soon as I realized the machine was still leaking, and he had other appointments in different towns the rest of the day. And then is was the weekend, which they don't work, so everything fell to tomorrow. Also, I had to call the warranty people at Lowe's to schedule more maintenance since they closed my original one after he left the first time.

I understand there's no way he could have known it would still leak, and I understand that Lowe's needs time to cover all the bases, so it boils down to bad timing. I have an older model washing machine, one I don't think they make anymore, so it might take them longer to find the right parts. I don't believe anyone is trying to deliberately sabotage me, it's just an inconvenience. It's not their fault or mine, so there's nothing for me to really be angry about. Shit happens and we deal with it when it does. ;)

    1. The repair person stopped by this morning to check things out, and he discovered that the new part he installed last Thursday/Friday (cannot for the life of me remember), was defective. Now he has to order another part and reinstall it at a later date. However, I can still do laundry, but I have to keep towels on the floor to catch the water.

We're big fans of the trampoline park! We started taking the kids as soon as they could walk and jump well on their own. Most places have an area that is JUST for kids to jump, so they don't have to worry about being knocked over by someone older. There are other places that open early (like once a week) for smaller children, so they can play with other kids their age, and also not worry about being trampled.

    1. Right?? That's what I said! They didn't fully fix it the first time, so they should have just sent someone out to check on it. Unfortunately, that's not how they do things, and I had to start with step one and get in touch with the warranty people at Lowe's. I had to tell them the issue was unresolved, and that is was indeed the SAME issue, and then they opened another case/ticket. Phew! It's exhausting. I wish they'd just replace it, especially if it's going to be this much trouble to repair.

I'm so excited about There's Something About Sweetie, I can't wait to see what you think of it Linds, so many new reads!

    1. They loved that he was jumping with us! I honestly didn't think he would last the full hour, but he surprised me. He even kept jumping after a nasty fall. Yay for a working routine! Housework CAN wait, because time with my children (and personal time for my sanity) are super important. I finished There's Something About Sweetie last night, so my review will likely pop up tomorrow. :)
