The Sunday Post [78]

The Sunday Post is a weekly meme hosted by Kimberly at the Caffeinated Reviewer! It's an opportunity to share news, post a recap for the previous week, showcase books, and highlight what's planned for the week ahead.

News:
It's my last day before Winter Break officially ends. I plan on enjoying it! Teachers go back Monday and Tuesday for Professional Development (PD) Days, and students will be back on Wednesday. Our schedule is pretty packed, and I'm worried I'm not going to have enough time in my room or with my team to prep and prepare. I've stopped taking work home with me since it wasn't fair to my family or myself, so hopefully I can find the time while I'm there. I wish they'd do all the PD on Monday and let us work on what we needed to on Tuesday.

My giveaway post wasn't working (thank you for pointing it out La La!), and I think it was the code I used for the first giveaway. I'm using a different site now and it seems to be working, so if you would like to win an ARC of I Am Made of Death by Kelly Andrew and To Clutch a Razor by Veronica Roth, please check out the post and submit your entry! Unfortunately, due to shipping costs, this giveaway is US only. However, I do have some international ones coming up!

I should finish reading Wreck Your Heart today or tomorrow. I had a slow reading week since I was spending time with my family and trying to knock out every single thing on my To Do List before going back to work. I hope you all have a wonderful Sunday and a fantastic week! Happy reading!

    1. I can't believe the break is over already! Looking back I know we did a lot the last two weeks, but it still feels like the break started yesterday, lol.

  2. Those last hours before returning to work after a nice break---they are so hard. It feels like there is still so much to do. I always greatly appreciated having time in my classroom instead of PD.

    1. The Sunday Scaries are starting to set in. 😱 I always feel like there's a lot to do, but I managed to accomplish so much over the break! I decluttered my house and made several trips to Goodwill to drop things off (we also brough a few things home from there since I have no self-control when it comes to thrifting).

    1. Fingers crossed! Since it's a short week back for the students, we're mostly going to be reviewing the materials we covered before the break. It will give us more time to plan out the rest of our lessons for the month. :)

    1. My kids will just go to work with me since they don't have school until Wednesday. There are a lot of teacher's kids, so they have other people to play with while they're there.

  5. It's kind of nice they do a soft start for the new year, giving you two days to get back into things before the kids come in.

    1. Oh, absolutely! It will be nice to have a few days to settle back in before the kids get there. I just wish we had more prep and planning time. We don't get a planning period during the day. The kids have a 30 minute Specials period once a day (P.E., Music, Library, Maker Space - it alternates), and it's not a lot of time to meet and plan with my team. We do a lot before and after school.

  6. Hope you enjoyed the break! It's always nice to have that. I know my sister goes back tomorrow as well, but I don't think she got the PD day with her school, so it's back in full force! Hope you're able to get caught up on what you need to get done before the students come back this week.

Nice lineup of reads! I still need to read that series of Ciccarelli's! Also want to read Ibanez's new book too! Hope you enjoy your lineup of reads!

    1. I think we were visiting each other's blogs at the same time! 😂

I did enjoy my break! I loved all the time I got to spend with family and catching up on my never-ending list of things to do, but I've also missed my students. I'm actually looking forward to getting back into my routine and seeing how they spent their holidays. ❤️

  8. It’s nice that the teachers get some prep time before the students return. It must be challenging though for those parents who have to go back to work Monday and have to pay for child care.

    1. That's why I have to take my kids to work with me, lol. It is nice to have these PD days to prep a little so we're more prepared for the kids returning. It's hard coming back from a two week break and jumping right back in where you left off.

  9. Lots of good anime ❤️ I hope you have a great return to school and a wonderful school year!

  10. I love that you have 2 days before kids come back but I hate that its filled with scheduled PD. That is stressful-you are just thinking about all the things you have to get done! Glad you enjoyed your break! I stopped doing work at home as well-I've been in education for 19 years now and it took me way too long to get to that point!

    1. It's so hard to leave it at work! I was staying late and taking it home, but there's so little time after school and I really wanted my focus to be my family. I also need to take the time to allow myself to recharge. We got more time in our rooms today than I thought we would! Some of the scheduled PD didn't take as long as they thought. I hope you enjoyed your time off!

    1. I was definitely dragging my feet this morning and the kids REALLY didn't want to wake up. However, it is nice to be back in a routine again! I just have to get myself sorted at work. 😅

  13. My kiddo goes back tomorrow! I hope you have a great transition back to work and glad you had a nice break!! They do not pay you enough to take work home. I'm sure it's difficult because you care so much, but good for you!!

    1. Thank you! Today wasn't terrible. It was just hard getting my brain back in work mode. 😅 I also really love and actually missed my students, so I'm excited to see them on Wednesday! I definitely wish we got paid more. A lot of teachers put in so much extra time outside of their contracted hours. ❤️

  15. We had a plan day on Dec 22nd, but we start right back tomorrow with the kids. Eleanor goes back Tuesday, so her district is giving teacher's one day at least. I'm sorry you have to sit through two days of PD, when you could be using the time to plan! Is it district-level or school-level PD? If it's school level, at least there might be hope that your admins will give you at least a little plan time, maybe?? Happy New Year!

    1. I ended up getting a few hours in my room this afternoon! The PD didn't last as long as they thought it would, so we were able to work with our teams and prep after lunch. :)

  17. It’s quite strange for me that you go back so quickly after Christmas/New Year. It’s our summer holidays in Australia so we don’t go back til end of the month when the new school year starts,
I hope your return goes smoothly.

Wishing you a happy new year and a great reading week

  18. Hope your winter break was restful. I wanted to read that Lori Radar-Day book but there are just too many in Jan and Feb I want to read! So I didn't get it. I try not to take books I'm not able to schedule. Happy New Year!

    1. It was! Thank you. I tried to be really selective with my Jan/Feb requests for that exact reason. There are a lot of good books coming out in the next few weeks! I will hopefully have my review up tomorrow. 🤞🏼
