The Sunday Post [61]

The Sunday Post is a weekly meme hosted by Kimberly at the Caffeinated Reviewer! It's an opportunity to share news, post a recap for the previous week, showcase books, and highlight what's planned for the week ahead.

News:

Halito! Can we just be finished with this terrible, horrible, no good, very bad year? I feel like I'm swimming in quicksand these days, and it hasn't been good for my mental health. I hate letting people down, missing deadlines (like for blog tours, book releases, etc.), and feeling like there's always a reason why I can't do this or that. They feel like empty excuses, and I know that's just me being too hard on myself. Everyone has been incredibly understanding - - especially you, Jaime.

The kids and I have all been out of commission for the last week or so with the flu. Now, the flu is no joke... crazy high fevers, coughing, vomiting, etc. Normally, that's enough to make any parent worry, but now we have to constantly consider Covid. It's fucking terrifying. What's worse? PEOPLE STILL AREN'T TAKING IT SERIOUSLY. How many people have to die before the world realizes it isn't going to magically disappear on its own? My daughter was actually in the hospital for a while, because we couldn't get her fever to come down (before they had definitively ruled out Covid), and she needed fluids.

Trump refusing to concede is stressing me out - - the guy is shifty. We've had people cutting down trees all week, which is loud and disruptive. All of the toilet paper is gone - - poof. My son's teacher has him doing pretty in-depth science experiments at home, which I really don't have time for. It also doesn't seem fair to have them sit in front of a screen all day just to assign more online homework. Like, the kids NEED A BREAK. THEIR PARENTS NEED A BREAK. It's just A LOT. There was already a ton of stuff going on, then everyone got sick, and now I have zero energy and a lot of bad feelings.

Previous week on the blog:

What I'm currently reading:

In a Holidaze by Christina Lauren ๐ŸŽง
Instant Karma by Marissa Meyer ๐ŸŽง
  • Really enjoying both of these audiobooks!

What I plan on reading next:

Love Your Life by Sophie Kinsella ๐ŸŽง

What I'm watching:

The Great British Baking Show is something I look forward to watching every week! I can't believe it's almost over. Black Clover is definitely a new favorite, but I'm completely caught up. There's a new spinoff/sequel for Inuyasha that's called Yashahime: Princess Half-Demon that I've started, but there are only two dubbed episodes so far.

  1. Sorry to hear you all got the flu. I had it once, in 2004, and it was the worst thing I have even experienced. You poor dears! I hope it's all on the upswing for you from here. I loved In a Holidaze. Lot of holiday warm fuzzies and very funny. Love Your Life was another really fun one. I DNFed Instant Karma. Too angsty for me, but remember, I really don't like a lot of angst in my books. Hope you enjoy them all.

    1. This is the second time I've had the flu, and neither experience was pleasant. I'm just thankful Jacob could stay home while I was sick, since the kids started feeling better before I did. I think I slept for a sold 24 hours.

Holidaze was wonderful! I really liked how the story developed. :) I haven't DNFd Instant Karma, but it's not as enjoyable as I thought it would be. It is VERY angsty. I also don't like how closeminded the main character is. Maybe it gets better? *fingers crossed*

  2. Sorry to hear you were all sick! I mean, even the sniffles in this time kind of gives you a start. Glad that it was just the regular old flu. Hope you're all feeling better though. Sorry to hear about the stress too! I can't imagine how kids are adjusting to all the online learning. I remember just having to take a test online for a class once and I didn't like it as much. Online learning just isn't for me either and I can't imagine younger children adapting to it.

Nice new reads though! I hope you enjoy them and that bring a bright spot to the chaos surrounding you.

    1. Thank you! We're all feeling much better! I really hate the online learning, but I also don't want to risk sending him in person either. What am I supposed to do? On the one hand, he's missing out on those social connections and interactions, but on the other... COVID.

Reading has definitely been an escape! ;)

Oh, gosh. No wonder you were posting all those dramatic gifs on Twitter. I do hope the worst is over for all of you!

Yep, you do need a break, and there's nothing to be ashamed for. When we sign up for/request something, it's always in good faith. One can't know the pits of hell are about to swallow them. I can relate to wanting to do all the things and feeling like you owe the publishers etc. something, but when life's a dumpster fire, there's nothing you can do about it.

    1. The pits of hell did indeed swallow me there for a while! We're all doing better now, thank the stars. It was really bad for a while - - only Jacob stayed well, which is good, since he had to take care of everything while I was out of commission.

  4. OMG, I hope you're all feeling better soon!

I think we've finally watched all the old seasons of GBBS on Netflix, so hopefully we'll start watching the new season soon!

    1. Yes! We are all feeling much better now. :) I really want to go back and watch the older seasons - - it's just such a good, wholesome show! I love the bakers, judges, and hosts.

  5. I'm so sorry your family has been so sick. I hate this year and can't wait until the vaccines start rolling out. Keeping you all in my prayers!

    1. The vaccines are being administered - - yay! Hopefully, everyone will get one and we can all go back to living our lives.

  6. Oh the flu is horrible!! I got it a few years ago and it is truly miserable. Trump is stressing me out too with all his fraud claims and refusal to accept what is very clear-he lost. This year has been rough!

    1. So. Miserable. I have avoided Twitter like the plague and refuse to read anything that has to do with him. The man is insane and thrives on creating chaos. January 20th cannot come soon enough.

  7. As if you needed the flu on top of everything else. Ugh, I hope you all feel better soon. I'm hiding indoors and trying to stay away from every virus and bug this winter!

    1. We're feeling much better - - thank you! I stay home whenever I can, but I can't keep my kids locked inside every day. We've been taking a lot of walks and trying to find activities that require social distancing and masks. This year has been so hard on them.

  8. Oh man, I'm so sorry you all had flu. That's no joke either, and yeah, COVID makes it even worse (and more worrisome). I'm sorry your daughter was in the hospital too, but I hope you are all feeling better and home safe now. I wish people would finally take things seriously - it's just insane to me. And Trump being his usual stuff definitely stresses me out. I'm trying not to pay too much attention to the news these days.

Sounds like you have a lot going on, so I hope it settles down some - and soon! Glad you're enjoying your current reads. I want to check out In a Holidaze.

    1. Covid makes EVERYTHING worse. We're all home and feeling much better now! I always see people out and about without masks, and it makes me want to scream. Like, do it for others. Show some kindness and decency! Trump is an idiot and I cannot keep up with him anymore. I used to read his tweets to keep myself updated, but it was so bad for my mental health.

Holidaze was lovely! Just what I needed. <3

  9. I'm sure everyone understands. I think we're all struggling to some degree or another.

I'm sorry you're all sick and running out of things again. My struggle is kleenex lol

  10. Sorry to hear the flu made the rounds there. :( I hope everyone has recovered by now. Everything seems so overwhelming when you're sick. And I find it always takes me a long time to get any kind of strength or stamina back. Sounds like it's a good time for a very low-key Thanksgiving. No stress!

    1. We have! Thank you! I was fortunate Jacob could stay home and help once the kids started feeling better. They got sick first, then it hit me right before they started improving. I think I slept for a solid 48 hours. We did have a very low-key, enjoyable Turkey Day. :)

  12. Aw Lindsi! I'm sorry to hear this... I mean, I knew about the flu but not that your daughter was so poorly she got hospitalised. :( Glad you're all on the mend now.
The home schooling sounds like a nightmare. You'd think common sense would prevail and they'd cut them some slack on the homework front... Maybe assign them something fun and away from a screen.

Look after yourself and don't worry about the blog. It's never nice feeling like you're letting people down but you've got to look after yourself first and come back when your plate is a bit clearer.

    Take care!

    1. No one is sick right now - thank the stars! Homeschooling is AWFUL. My son had benchmarks tests this week and last week, and OMG. It was ridiculous. I really want him to GO TO SCHOOL, but COVID. I don't know what to do and it's stressing me out.
