The Sunday Post [24]

The Sunday Post is a weekly meme hosted by Kimberly at the Caffeinated Reviewer! It's an opportunity to share news, post a recap for the previous week, showcase books, and highlight what's planned for the week ahead.

News:

I'm sorry the blog has been neglected this month. I've been reading (because it's a lovely escape from reality, and my reality is a little bleak at the moment), but haven't felt like sitting down and blogging. No one is sick, my family is fine, and things will get better. Life has a way of sorting itself out, but sometimes you have grin and bear it for awhile.

My son starts school in August, and I still can't believe it! It really hit me when I saw the list of supplies he'd need for school, and I started crying right there in the store. He's my baby, and I'm so happy for him, and so sad for me. I know he's going to love school, and I want him to, but I'll miss having his face around. I know people always say this about their kids, but he's the best. Seriously.

Previous week on the blog:

Sunday: Nothing!
Monday: Nothing!
Thursday: Nothing!
Friday: Nothing!
Saturday: A Court of Thorns and Roses (A Court of Thorns and Roses, #1) by Sarah J. Mass ⋆⋆⋆⋆⋆

What I'm currently reading:

I devoured the first two books in the A Court of Thorns and Roses series, and Andi from Andi's ABCs has kindly let me borrow A Court of Wings and Ruin until my copy arrives. After reading the first book, I knew it would be a series I needed on my shelves, because it's one I'll want to read again and again. I love the dynamics between the characters, and how they've all changed and grown since the first book.

Shatter the Sky is one I just started, and one I had hoped to finish before tomorrow, but that was before the whirlwind that is Rhysand entered my life (Chapter 55 is no joke you guys). It's been really good so far, and I plan on fully jumping back into it once I recover from my current book hangover.

Small Spaces is wonderfully dark and interesting! I was surprised how eerie this MG book turned out to be! My kids are loving it, even if they as me to leave the hall light on while they fall asleep, haha.

What I plan on reading next:

A Court of Frost and Starlight (A Court of Thorns and Roses, #3.1) by Sarah J. Mass
Circus Mirandus by Cassie Beasley
The Last Hope (The Raging Ones, #2) by Krista & Becca Ritchie

What I'm watching:

I'm currently caught up on Attack on Titan, which is vicious and brutal. I have no idea why I'm still watching something that freaks me out, but the story is good. I think this is supposed to be the last season, and we're finally starting to get answers, even if a lot of people had to die for them.

Veronica Mars, lovelies! I loved the original television show, so I was thrilled when they announced a new season. However, I thought this season was supposed to give us closure, but the ending was !!! and left a lot of questions unanswered. There's going to be more, right?

  1. Sorry things are a bit bleak right now, but I'm glad your family is okay! I'm glad you've been able to enjoy reading, even if blogging has been put on the back burner for a bit - it needs to happen sometimes!

    1. I just haven't had the energy for it these days! Time that I would usually devote to blogging has been needed to take care of other things, which is frustrating but necessary. My kids are always a bright spot, which is why I've been focusing on doing more with/for them. It helps. <3

  2. I hope things start looking brighter for you.
Rob Thomas is hoping to continue the Veronica Mars series as a noir mystery show. Personally I kind of wished I’d stopped after the movie, which I loved. I think it was a mistake to kill off you know who.

Wishing you a great reading week

    1. Thank you. I didn't know Rob Thomas was trying to do that... are they trying to give Veronica a fresh start or something? Was this supposed to tie up all of her loose ends in Neptune? Her father wanted to do the thing she was angry about, but that Logan and everyone else understood. Do you think that person is really dead at the end, or they're going to spin it into something else the next season?

  3. I'm glad it's not a matter of being sick or anything! Whatever it is, I hope you start feeling better soon!

Your little man will be OK, I'm sure. And in time, you will too! When he'll come back from school talking your ears off about all the things he's learnt and done, he will brighten your day!

    1. Thanks! Everything has to settle down eventually, right? It can't stay the same forever. I just hope it gets better and not worse. "Only time will tell..." I've always hated that phrase, haha.

I'm really excited for him, and just really sad for me. ;) I know he's going to have a blast, but I also know I'm going to be a crying mess when I leave him at school.

  5. Aww that's totally understandable when your little one is starting school. It IS hard!

Small Spaces looks so delightfully eerie! :)

I really need to watch Veronica Mars.

    1. It's my first time having to go through all of this, so I'm a mess. My baby! <3 I know he's going to love it. He'll also be happy to be around kids his own age more often, and not just his sisters. They've started to gang up on him at home, haha.

Small Spaces is delightfully eerie! Yes! You do need to watch Veronica Mars! It was a mystery I didn't figure out until they did. :)

  6. I totally understand needing a break from blogging. It's good that your family is going well. I hope that you enjoy your time reading and the time you have with your son until he starts school!

    1. We've been trying to squeeze all of his favorite activities in before school starts! We went to the zoo yesterday, and we have plans to go to the trampoline park and Discovery Center. I know we'll be able to do these things once he starts school, but never in the middle of the day. It will have to be in the afternoons or on the weekends, and some of those activities become to crowded then, especially for my younger girls.

  7. I can understand the first time your child goes into some else's care on a regular basis being a little bittersweet. Though, I think I was hit the hardest dropping my daughter off at college, because I knew I wouldn't see her every day. We'll have to have some virtual hugs ready for you on your son's first day of school.

    1. I'm already crying about it, haha. I know he's going to enjoy himself, and I love that he's excited about starting school, but it's so hard to just LEAVE him. He's five, and that's five years of him being at home, and rarely staying with someone else for an extended period of time. Grandparents are a little different, haha. This is new! New teachers, classmates, surroundings. Yes, I'll definitely need those virtual hugs. <3
