My Weekly Pull [23]

My Weekly Pull is something I do every Wednesday (sorry it's a few days late) to show which comics I had pulled for me that week! If you're into comics, or you're looking to start, please join me! If you decide to do your own post, leave a link in the comments. I would love to stop by and check it out!

Ant-Man and The Wasp #1 (of 5) by Mark Waid, Javier GarrΓ³n, David Nakayama
Ant-Man and The Wasp Living Legends #1 by Ralph Macchio, Andrea Di Vito, Todd Nauck
Astonishing X-Men #12 by Charles Soule, Gerardo Sandoval, Greg Land
Dazzler X Song #1 by Magdelene Visaggio, Laura Braga, Elizabeth Torque

Hunt for Wolverine Weapon Lost #2 (of 4) by Charles Soule, Matteo Buffagni, Scott Koblish
Infinity Countdown #4 (of 5) by Gerry Duggan, Aaron Kuder, Nick Bradshaw
X-Men Red #5 by Tom Taylor, Mahmud A. Asrar, Travis Charest

I am ridiculously excited for the Ant-Man and the Wasp movie! I think Paul Rudd does an excellent job portraying the character, and he also adds his own humor to the role. The first Ant-Man is one of my favorite Marvel movies, and I loved his part in the Avengers (Winter Soldier? Maybe? I can't remember... it's the one where all the Avengers are fighting against each other.) I also think Evangeline Lilly is an amazing Wasp! I read somewhere that Wasp actually came up with the term "Avengers" for the group, and that she has led the team in the past.

I was ready to quit reading Astonishing X-Men two issues ago, and I don't feel differently now. I kept trying the newer issues because I really enjoyed how the series started, but I just can't do it anymore. This will be the last one for me, but only because of the stupid cliffhanger. It was something I had always suspected, but I'm a little curious what that means for everyone. Also, there are a lot of awesome characters in this, but the story doesn't really focus on more than two people each issue. Mystique and Rogue, Gambit and Bishop, Archangel... sooo many great people to work with, and I feel like the majority of them get overlooked.

I didn't know very much about Dazzler until I started reading Runaways, so I'm excited to see how she will be portrayed in this new comic! I always love reading the first issue to see how I feel about it before officially adding it to my Pull List. (Edit 6/10/18: Dazzler is not in the Runaways comic! I got her confused with someone else, hah! Ooops. Sorry about that everyone!)

X-Men Red is still killing it! I love the cast of characters and the story Tom Taylor has created. I think he makes a lot of relevant points that correlate (or are applicable) to the world we live in. Right now people are being controlled by their fear of mutants and the baddies are using social media to amp up that fear and hatred. It's spiraling out of control, and even the mutants themselves can be affected by it.

  1. I love watching Marvel movies! Ant-Man was a very unique movie for me. I don't read comics much at all, so hearing about a "new" super hero was super interesting. I'm excited for the new movie to come out. What did you think about Infinity War if you've seen it?

    1. They're so fun! We haven't had a chance to watch Infinity War yet, and avoiding spoilers has been HARD. We can't take all the kiddos with us, so we usually wait until we can rent the movie and watch it at home once they're all asleep. Did you like the movie? I've heard it's wonderful and shocking!

    3. I KNOW. We can't take the kiddos with us (way too young), so we just wait until they come out on DVD. #adulting Hah!

  2. The Wasp HAS been the leader of the avengers in the past- several times I think?- and Evangeline Lilly does make an amazing Wasp. Can't wait. I love that movie poster with them all small on it. :) Bummer about Astonishing. I never really felt compelled to read that one, although Mystique is one of my favorite characters. Also Dazzler- love her! Is she in runaways now?

Glad X-Men Red is good too. Is that Namor on the cover?

    1. It is Namor! I love something Gabby says to him in the last issue! I laughed SO HARD. Hahahaha (see...still laughing). AH-HAH! I thought she'd been the leader! Almost as much as Cap, right? Heh, the movie poster is awesome.

I really like Mystique as a character, but I don't feel like she's getting much attention. It's like she's there to serve as filler, which is a major bummer. I was really, really wrong about Dazzler. She's not in Runaways, but another girl named Karolina looks JUST like her. I think she's an alien though, not a mutant? Ugh, now I feel silly for getting them mixed up. I've only read the first few issues of Runaways, and I could have sworn she was Dazzler, but it makes more sense that she's not. Wahhh, but I'm still excited about the Dazzler comic! Heh.

    3. Dazzler rocks. Actually I don't know what they're doing with her lately, but she CAN rock ha ha and hopefully they are writing her so she rocks. lol I love her power- converting sound into energy. Imagine a rock concert where a mutant singer could do their own lightshow or whatever. Gives new meaning to rock on! And Namor's awesome, altho again I dunno what they're doing with him lately.

Karolina! I remember her- yeah she's an alien as I recall. She had cool powers too, and I liked her in the comic (and on the Hulu show).

    4. I still need to watch the show, but we haven't had Hulu in years... not since they changed everything.

It looks like Dazzler is literally rocking on the cover of the first issue. I think it's crazy that she can convert sound into energy, and I'm sure that comes in handy! It's never completely silent (not naturally anyways).

Namor is living underwater. He's a king that rarely wears clothes, lol. He's helping everyone in X-Men Red right now because the world has gone crazy.

  3. Haha I'm glad I'm not the only person to be "refreshing" in preparation for the Ant Man and the Wasp. Hello fellow comic book fan! I'm so glad I came across this blog.

    Have a great week!

  7. I'm excited for the new Ant Man movie too. I think it's kind of a quieter movie in a way but I like that. It has more emotion.

    1. I don't think Ant-Man or the Wasp get the same amount of attention the other Avengers do, but that makes me like them more. They operate on their own, but do just as much to save the world.

    1. I don't think it was her specifically at first, because she's not the original Wasp. I believe it was her mom that led the Avengers and came up with the term. It's hard to keep the timelines straight, haha. More than one Wasp has led, though.
