The Sunday Post [33]

The Sunday Post is a weekly meme hosted by Kimberly at the Caffeinated Reviewer! It's an opportunity to share news, post a recap for the previous week, showcase books, and highlight what's planned for the week ahead.

News:

December has been a busy month! I didn't realize how many activities my son would be involved in once he started school (end-of-the-year and holiday). His first school play was last week (ohmygod so fun!), and I'm so happy most of our family was able to attend. This week he has a piano recital, pajama day at school, a class party, and one service day (where they sing carols and pass cards out at nursing homes). I feel like I'm forgetting something... it's exhausting just thinking about what this week will entail. However, he'll be on his winter break soon and I cannot wait for that reprieve!

My husband should know more about his next duty station this week, and we've already started looking at houses in the area. That also means finding a new school, which greatly impacts our housing options. I'm also worried about how my son will take leaving his friends behind to start over somewhere new. I know children are resilient, but I'm still sad that he has to leave a place where he's comfortable and happy. I'm not looking forward to packing everything we own into boxes, but I love unboxing after a move and finding a new place for everything! I also love exploring new towns!

What I'm watching:

Jacob and I watched Little Monsters today (the "scary" zombie movie with Lupita Nyong'o (love her)). It was amusing, but probably not something I'd watch again. I liked how the story played out, but wish the plot had been more developed. I wanted to know why the government had zombies, and also how they were able to escape from a highly fortified facility. Someone had to open and close the gates, and the zombies themselves were too slow to do it, so how did they get out? There were small holes like this throughout the movie that caught my attention, but didn't really detract from my enjoyment.

  1. I imagine moving regularly will be something your son will have to get used to, I hope he settles in quickly at your new base.

I enjoyed Sorcery of Thrones, Wishing you a great reading week

    1. Yes, moving is something the monsters will do with some regularity! This is just the first time we're moving with one of them in school. I'm not sure what to expect. I'm really looking forward to Sorcery of Thorns! :)

    1. We did just get settled here (about a year now), but we moved sooner than we needed to since my husband deployed. I wanted to be closer to family while he was gone. We already know what his next assignment is (Virginia), just not specific dates and whatnot. We need official orders before we can really start planning the move.

  3. Aww, that kinda stinks for your little guy, but like you said, he's young and should hopefully adapt pretty easily - it'll be a new adventure for him!

    1. I hope he sees it as an adventure and not something to dread. I know it's not easy moving somewhere new (especially in the middle of the school year), but hopefully it's not a hard adjustment. It he goes to school on base, the other kids should be in a similar boat.

  4. It definitely seems like the older your kids get, the busier you are! Good luck with the house hunting and the move. I'm sure that will be stressful for everyone. I hope it goes well!

    1. Yes! They start being involved in so many different things! Moving is extremely stressful, so I'm already looking forward to it being over, haha.

  5. Young kids really do have all sorts of activities once they're in school. Hectic, but fun too!! My brother used to be in the army, and his kids did okay, but it can be tough. I hope your son likes his new school and town once you do get there!

    1. Soccer just ended (thank the stars), but he still has piano lessons every week. He wants to get back into jiu-jitsu and start gymnastics, but the town we live in doesn't have the first, and the second is questionable. All of the facilities are outside and smell weird, haha. I know my son is excited about moving (we're going to be near the beach, which he's THRILLED about), but he's also sad about leaving his friends behind. The only reason he wanted to go to school instead of me homeschooling him, was because he wanted to make more friends.

  7. Sending good energies for your move! We moved when my son was in third grade, and you are right... they are pretty resilient. His new school let out for summer a couple days earlier than his old school, so we went back to visit and I was the one who broke into tears when I saw his previous teacher and his old classmates. πŸ˜„

I hope you have had a great start to your week. πŸ‘✨

    1. Hah! I don't think I'll miss his current school (although my mom does work there, haha), but I know he'll miss his friends. It's a small class with only 8 students, so they know each other pretty well. :)

  8. Wow, your son is living his best life LOL. Of course, that makes YOUR life a little more complicated, but also interesting! I hope he'll adjust as well when you move again. And you too! At least you'll leave all the giant ants and scorpions behind πŸ˜‚.

I'm a bit clueless about military life, so forgive me for the stupid question, but...why is it necessary for your husband to move so often, if at all?

    1. I feel like there will be new insect horrors awaiting me when we move! There's always something... maybe my dryer will break this time? ;)

I'm mostly clueless and I'm currently living the military life! I honestly have no idea why they move as often as they do, unless it's to give everyone a shot at living in different places. I know some stations are more preferable than others, and it keeps people from being stuck in one place for too long (if they don't like it). Maybe they like changing things up so new people can offer new perspectives? I really don't know. We were in Georgia for three years, and now Texas for three, so it's safe to assume we'll be in Virginia for three. The kids and I moved when he deployed since we're from Texas, and I wanted to be closer to family while he was away. That added a move between moves, but I'm happy I did it (so's my mom and mother-in-law!). <3
