State of the ARC [14]

State of the ARC is a monthly meme hosted by Avalinah at Avalinah's Books! It's an opportunity for readers to catch up on their long overdue ARCs, but right now I'm using it to keep up with my upcoming ARCs instead. It helps me stay organized!

The Girl the Sea Gave Back (Sky in the Deep, #2) by Adrienne Young (9/3)
Frankly in Love (Frankly in Love, #1) by David Yoon (9/10)
Six Goodbyes We Never Said by Candace Ganger (9/24)

Cursed by Thomas Wheeler, Frank Miller (Illustrator) (10/1)
The Grace Year by Kim Liggett (10/8)
Fireborne (The Aurelian Cycle, #1) by Rosaria Munda (10/15)

Twice in a Blue Moon by Christina Lauren (10/22)
When the Stars Lead to You by Ronni Davis (11/12)
Coral by Sara Ella (11/12)

Tweet Cute by Emma Lord (1/21)
When We Were Vikings by Andrew David MacDonald (1/28)
Foul is Fair (Foul is Fair, #1) by Hannah Capin (2/4)

Jack Kerouac is Dead to Me by Gae Polisner (4/7)

Only three this month! The Lady Rogue by Jenn Bennett was on this list, but I read and reviewed it yesterday. Loved it! I really hope it turns into a series. I started The Girl the Sea Gave Back today, so hopefully I can squeeze it in before the third! I think I'll be able to. The kids have been sick, so they've been taking longer naps and going to bed early. It makes me sad for them, but also provides a little extra reading time for me. I received Six Goodbyes We Never Said for a blog tour, and I have a feelings it's going to make me cry.

What are you reading right now? Should I add it to my TBR?

  1. The Girl The Sea Gave Back has such a lovely cover. I hope you enjoy it! I've heard some mixed reviews so I'm now on the fence... Plus, I haven't read the first one and I don't know if I have to to read this one.

When We Were Vikings is another one that had me excited. I can wait to start seeing reviews for it!

    1. Yes! I love how shimmery it is!! I kept tilting it back and forth when it came in the mail, haha. Although, the book makes it sound like she's tattooed from head-to-toe, and the girl on the cover only has them on her upper arms (from what we can see). I've also heard very mixed things about this book, which is why I was so hesitant to start it. I guess I'll find out soon enough!

I don't think you need to read the first book... I honestly didn't remember who Halvard was until I re-read my review for Sky in the Deep, haha. It also takes place 10 years later, and fills you in on what's happened during that time. I think you'd be fine!

I am soooo ready to start When We Were Vikings!! Now that cover... <3 ;)

  3. Looks like you're making great progress on your ARCs. I'm curious to see what you think of The Girl the Sea Gave Back. I just finished it and have mixed feelings.

    1. I've been hesitant to start it for that reason! Everyone has felt very... in the middle about it (from the few reviews I've read). I don't think anyone has just LOVED it, and that worries me. I should finish it later today or early tomorrow. :)

  4. I have been trying really hard not to add too many new review books to the pile. I do have Tweet Cute from your list although I haven't actually clicked on the widget yet. It sounds like you are going to be able to stay on top of things. I hope your kids are feeling better soon!

    1. Haha! I always wait forever before clicking on widgets! I'm so, so close to having my average back to 80% on NetGalley! However, I feel like add two new books for every one that I read. ;)

Thanks! No one has a fever, so yay! They still have a lot of congestion, but it's manageable. Monster will be back at school tomorrow. <3

  5. Okay I just finished Serpent & Dove and you seriously need to grab it! So freaking good and it says it is a YA fantasy but it didn't read like a YA at all (I love YA so that wasn't a dig, it just felt more NA to me or even more like an adult fantasy series than YA). Either way, it was fabulous and I so want book two now!

    1. I'm trying! I've done relatively well the last few months. Organization is key! As long as I stay away from NetGalley… haha!

  9. I am coveting a few of those books. I am excited about Frankly in Love and When the Stars Lead to You, but alas, I was not a chosen one for those two. Fingers crossed my library gets them. Can't wait to see what you think.

    1. I am SUPER PUMPED for both of those! I'm starting Frankly in Love next! I should finish The Girl the Sea Gave back today. It was book mail that I got last week, so I didn't have a lot of time to squeeze it in before it's release date (today). Maybe I can get a review up tonight! <3 I hope your library gets copies of the books you want!

  11. I haven't read any of those. I just started Drakon Unchained by N.J. Walters and it's such a good series. I've been getting ready for family next week so I doubt I'll finish this book anytime soon. lol

    1. Family always gets in the way of reading! Although, I always threaten to lock myself in the bedroom whenever my in-laws visit. ;) I haven't heard of that series! I'll definitely look into it. Thanks, Mary!

    1. It's been good so far! I wanted to finish it sooner, but the kid brought Strep home. It finally found its way to me and the girls, so I've felt blah all week. I've been playing Lost Odyssey on the Xbox, which has been nice and relaxing -- no thinking involved really. ;)

  13. I just updated my ARC list and am completely shocked that I have spring ARCs. It seems too early but then Halloween decorations have been in the stores for weeks....

    1. Right?? I was really surprised when some of the dates were for 2020! I thought it was too soon for next year's releases to start popping up. It's crazy how quickly this year has gone by! Ugh, I hate how early decorations go up these days. Enjoy the seasons as they come! Halloween, Thanksgiving, Christmas... all of them happen at the end of their respective months. Put the decorations out at the beginning! That's plenty of time to prepare.

  14. Oooh, what did you think of The Giirl the Sea Gave Back??? I haven't managed to post my review for that one yet ๐Ÿ™ˆ I'll get there this weekend I hope!

    1. I'm barely into it! I started it the day before it's pub date, but then my kid got Strep! I was trying to keep him from infecting the rest of us, but now we all have it. I've taken an involuntary hiatus from reading, because burning eyes are no fun (due to the fever). ;) Maybe I'll finish this weekend now that everyone's feeling better?
