The Sunday Post [14]

The Sunday Post is a weekly meme hosted by Kimberly at the Caffeinated Reviewer! It's an opportunity to share news, post a recap for the previous week, showcase books, and highlight what's planned for the week ahead.

News:

This week has been one thing after another, and I need a day off! The girls both had appointments on Wednesday, we went to the zoo on Thursday, and Friday I had an appointment that was two hours away (having a tattoo removed). That was on top of everything else we had going on (soccer practice, piano, jiu-jitsu). I'm exhausted! The two hour drive (four hours total) wasn't too bad. I finished the audio for Dance of Thieves by Mary E. Pearson and loved it! The ending has me jonesing for the next book! If the NetGalley gods are listening, I need Vow of Thieves in my life as soon as possible.

The zoo was probably my favorite thing we did this week. The girls are old enough now to really enjoy it, and my son is always happy to see the animals! One daughter was obsessed with feeding the birds. She would have stayed in there all day! She and her brother were holding them on their hands and feeding them, while the other daughter was eager to leave the room. She had no desire to see the birds, and their constant flying made her uncomfortable. She stuck close to me while the other two enjoyed themselves. Petting the goats was more her style! Our local zoo takes in a lot of injured wildlife, and animals that likely wouldn't make it on their own anymore.

Previous week on the blog:

Sunday: Nothing!
Monday: Small Town Hearts by Lillie Vale [Blog Tour: Review + Giveaway]
Tuesday: In Another Life by C.C. Hunter [Blog Tour: Review]
Thursday: Nothing!
Friday: Nothing!

What I'm currently reading:

All These Things I've Done (Birthright, #1) by Gabrielle Zevin
Wicked Saints (Something Dark and Holy, #1) by Emily A. Duncan
The Feel Good Factor by Lauren Blakely

I used to have a copy of All These Things I've Done, but I think I gave it away at some point. The audio popped up as a suggestion from my library, so I thought I would give it a try. I'm still on a reading high after Dance of Thieves, so I'm not sure if my lack of interest is timing, mood, or story. I'm only a few chapters into it, so I'm not giving up yet.

Wicked Saints isn't what I was expecting, but in the best way! The Feel Good Factor is my first Lauren Blakely book, but I'm enjoying it so far!

What I plan on reading next:

To Best the Boys by Mary Weber
I Dream of Spiders by Elle Keating

I'm super bummed I didn't read To Best the Boys before its release date, but life! It's one I was really looking forward to, so I plan on reading it as soon as possible.

What I'm watching:

I finally started The Umbrella Academy. I'm only a few episodes into it, but I'm enjoying it so far. Klaus is a riot! He recently mentioned waxing his ass with chocolate pudding (something like that). It was so random, and I couldn't help but laugh when he said it. I'm surprised the other two people in the van with him could keep a straight face. I don't think Klaus makes the best decisions, but he's hilarious!

I've also started watching Buffy the Vampire Slayer after reading Slayer by Kiersten White. It's interesting, and reminds me of television shows I watched growing up. I'm not sure how I missed this one... Also, Giles seems way too familiar with the teenagers on this show. He'll put his head really close to theirs, or talk to them with only inches separating their faces.

  1. I never managed to get into the Buffy... I feel like it was maybe was a revelation or something when it came out but due to the fact that television has... shall we say evolved? Since then, it just wasn't my thing? (The prosthetics for one thing...)

    1. It reminds me of Charmed! The demons and monsters in the first season can be a little ridiculous, but I love the show. Imagine how advanced the prosthetics were for their time!

  2. Omg I loved Buffy the Vampire Slayer. I've watched that entire series a couple of times and the spin off, Angel. I loved those shows. Going to the Zoo was fun when I was a kid. I used to take my daughter to the little zoo we had here before it closed down.

    1. The actor that plays Angel was on Bones (love him!) so I was familiar with one person going into this show. It'll be my first time through Buffy, and I was thinking about starting Angel afterwards! The zoo is fun for the kiddos, but it makes me sad for the animals. They're confined to very small areas, which can be boring and unsettling for them. The cheetahs and lions want to roam and run, the snakes want more than a small box live in. :(

  3. The zoo is always fun. I loved going when my daughter was younger. We had a bunch of great ones in our area too.

    1. We don't go very often! I've taken the kids twice in five years, haha. I like that it gives children an opportunity to see animals they wouldn't normally see, but I've always thought zoos were sad places. I like that our local zoo rescues a lot of their animals, but you know they don't want to be confined to those small spaces. It goes against everything that they are.

  4. Sorry it was such a hectic week, but the zoo sounds fun!

I really liked Wicker Saints so I'm happy to see you're enjoying it as well! I'm about half way done with Umbrella Academy; Klaus and Number 5 are the best part for sure!

    1. We enjoyed ourselves! The snow cones were probably my favorite part, haha. Hectic weeks happen! I hope I have time to finish Wicked Saints tonight! It gets better as I read.

I just finished the third episode of TUA, and wow. Eudora... Diego... eeesh. There's so much going on! Hazel and Cha-Cha are crazy bananas, too.

  5. Definitely a hectic week, but the zoo does sound fun. I'd want to pet the goats too. :) I still need to start The Umbrella Academy.

  6. Haha, it's been awhile since I watched Buffy the Vampire Slayer but I watched it for years! I sadly never got into the books though.

    1. Are there books that follow the series? Slayer by Kiersten White is set in the same world, but with completely different characters. Buffy makes an appearance or two, but she's really not involved in the story.

    2. There's a Buffy the Vampire Slayer book series!

  7. LOL, you have quite the busy/eclectic progeny! It's funny how the twins are so different (at least in regards to birds). Of course, I don't expect twins to mirror each other or anything, but that sounds like a huge difference.

I just finished watching Buffy for the first time, and it calls for one of my (scarce) television posts! Because man, I have THOUGHTS. Entertaining as it was, I also found it problematic (OK, it's been 20 years, but still) on so many levels. It's funny though how I didn't particularly notice Giles' proximity to the girls...but I suppose it was because I knew he was one of the good guys and a father figure of sorts. I'm starting Angel next (though there are a few crossovers episodes, so it would be best to watch them in order, from S.4 of Buffy on...but it's nothing overwhelming if you don't, and besides, this site helps: https://www.simonhampel.com/buffy.html). BTW, I was already familiar with Boreanaz via Bones as well! Another show with a few ups and downs, but I watched the whole thing.

    1. My children keep me on my toes! <3 In my experience, the girls have been opposites since the beginning! Seriously, in the womb, one would kick and spin more than the other. With twins, you typically knew where they were at all times, since there wasn't much room for them to move. One wanted to speak gibberish, and the other wanted to roll around. It's amazing how different and unique they are! :)

Thoughts?? I'm curious! A lot about this show is problematic, but it's mindless entertainment. ;) I look forward to reading your review!! Thanks for link. I'll keep it in mind when I get to the crossovers.

  9. We watched the first ep of The umbrella Academy and liked it. But I forgot to keep watching lol So thanks for the reminder.

I'm exhausted for you Lindsi! lol

I'm going to check out The Feel Good Factor. I need something fun to jump start my reading.

    1. The Umbrella Academy just blew my mind! I was so close to learning something and then... I hope you restart it soon! :)

Are you settling in okay? Getting everything sorted and moved? I would definitely recommend The Feel Good Factor!! It was everything I wanted from a romance read. <3

  10. That does sound like an exhausting week! The only good thing about running around all over the place is finishing audiobooks. I’m glad the kids enjoyed the zoo!

    1. Finishing audiobooks for the win! Haha! I love having time to listen to them in the car, especially if it's an MG book that the kids will enjoy, too.
