The Sunday Post [11]

The Sunday Post is a weekly meme hosted by Kimberly at the Caffeinated Reviewer! It's an opportunity to share news, post a recap for the previous week, showcase books, and highlight what's planned for the week ahead.

News:

I know this is a day late, but life has been hectic! One of the twins has been sick, and the other is cutting teeth. Both of them are fussy and irritable, which tends to make me fussy and irritable. My son has an insane amount of energy, and he's going a little crazy being stuck inside (and occasionally the backyard). The kid wants to explore!

Despite his inhuman energy, he loves LEGO. He will sit for hours with a new box and patiently piece everything together. He'll only ask for help occasionally, and is eerily good at following the instructions on his own. The bags are numbered, and the instructions are thorough, so he goes from page to page until he's completely finished. However, when he wants to build something old that we've stashed in his LEGO container, there are more pieces to sort through. Sometimes they're hard to find, which is why I've ordered a new organizational system! I spent hours the other day looking for a single wizard's beard, and nearly lost my mind. I've found a rolling cart with colored containers, so we can organize by color, and I'm probably more excited about this than I should be. ๐Ÿ˜‰

My husband finished my bookshelf the other day, and I absolutely love it! I helped a little in the final stages (sanding and applying finish), and I really love how everything turned out. The cedar on the sides is beautiful! *sighs with happiness* My husband is amazing! Next, he's going to build us a new dining room table, since we broke ours when we moved. Obviously a new bookshelf was more important, and therefore took priority.

Previous week on the blog:

Sunday: Nothing!
Tuesday: The Deceivers (Vale Hall, #1) by Kristen Simmons ⋆⋆⋆⋆
Thursday: Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man (#1-2) by Tom Taylor ⋆⋆⋆⋆
Saturday: Flower Talk: How Plants Use Color to Communicate by Sara Levine, Masha D'yans (Illustrator) ⋆⋆⋆⋆⋆

What I'm currently reading:

Potency (Glow, #1) by Aubrey Hadley
Courting Darkness (Courting Darkness Duology, #1) by Robin LaFevers
One Day in December by Josie Silver

Potency was Glow a few weeks ago, so I assume they changed the name. I think I prefer Glow, and I'm not sure how Potency fits as a title. I'm not very far into this one, but it's been okay so far. I'm not itching to pick it back up again, and it has over 600 pages. If a book is that long, I need to be really invested in it.

Courting Darkness and One Day in December are new acquisitions, and I'll be starting them both later today!

What I plan on reading next:

Magic Bites (Kate Daniels, #7) by Ilona Andrews
Gunmetal Magic (Kate Daniels, #5.5) by Ilona Andrews
Motion (Laws of Physics, #1) by Penny Reid

I now know that I should have read Gunmetal Magic before Magic Rises (which was amazing!). There were a few details about Andrea and Raphael that didn't make sense, and I'm sure they're explained in Gunmetal Magic. I'm going to listen to the audio for it before starting Magic Breaks

I've been wanting to read one of Penny Reid's books for awhile now, so I'm thrilled to be on a blog tour for Motion -- eep!

What I'm watching:

Nothing right now! I haven't had time. There are a few shows that I need to finish watching, but I've been catching up on my reading (and loving it!). Apparently, my library card is about to expire (where we used to live), and I've been using that card for all of my audiobooks. They have a very extensive selection since it's a big city, and the options at my local library are very limited.

Challenge updates:

Audiobook Challenge: 7 / 30+
Beat the Backlist Challenge: 9 / 100
Discussion Challenge: 1 / 11-20
Goodreads Challenge: 50 / 500

    1. Thank you! I'm thrilled with how it looks! <3 I hope they start feeling better soon, because I want to make it to story time on Wednesday, haha. Our local library is an amazing place for kids, and they have a ton of toys/activities in addition to all the lovely books. It's like a mini-vacation whenever we go. ;)

  2. Applause to your hubs, and yes, the shelf was definitely more important that your dining table. LOL! Hope the twins are feeling better. Oooh, you have the new Penny Reid. Gosh, I love her books!

    1. I thank him every day, haha! He wants to take my old one apart and smooth down some of the edges. He built it for me when we were dating, and it's been through many moves, and even more puppies. They like to gnaw when they're teething, so some of the corners look a little rough (if any of our dogs even THINK about touching my new shelf...). I'm anxious to see what he does for a dining room table! He's being very secretive about it. Hmm.

The girls have seemed better today, but I think my son is picking it up. It's always something! This will be my first Penny Reid! Do you have a favorite? <3

  3. Ha ha of course the bookshelf took priority! Good thinking lol. Courting Darkness looks good. I like her Grave Mercy but it's the only one I've read.

    1. I vaguely remember Grave Mercy, but I still have a copy on my shelves. It means I liked it enough to want to read it again! Hah! Maybe I should read it after Courting Darkness... Yes, the bookshelf was definitely the priority. We have a temporary table that we're borrowing until he finishes ours, but my books needed a place to live. ;)

  4. Aw, poor babies! I hope they both feel better soon. That's awesome your son loves LEGOS and can follow directions pretty well on his own. An organization system sounds good though. LOL And I love your bookshelves!

    1. They're feeling better! Thank you! I also apparently love LEGOS, because I will sit with him and build my own stuff (when you build without instructions, you're a Master Builder (so he says)). I don't think my parents ever bought LEGOS for me, since that was a "boy" toy. My brother was never really interested in them, so here we are. I am SO EXCITED about the storage bins! And I love my bookshelf, too! <3

    1. Jacob did most of the work! I mostly pestered him and asked how much longer it would take, haha. That's love, right? Building your loved one a bookshelf? ;)

Rest? What is rest? Even when they're not sick, I don't rest. <3 At this age, they just go and go and go. When it's finally time for bed, they don't want to sleep, and sometimes I end up falling asleep in the chairs in their rooms. I wake up and know there are things I still need to do before going to bed myself, but all of my energy is sapped. Ahh, I love my litter monsters. :)

Yay for Courting Darkness! I hope we both love it. <3

  6. Your new bookshelves are gorgeous! Kudos to your husband for understand that obviously bookshelves come before dining table. :) I read One Day in December last year and enjoyed it so much. Man, I was desperate for a happy ending! :) I hope your little one is feeling better!

    1. I started One Day in December last night, and I have a feeling it's going to break my heart (many, many times). I read Sam's review the other day, and it appears crying is unavoidable. :(

The little ones are feeling better today, and are currently at the table painting. Small reprieve for me! ;)

    1. Everyone is still feeling a little icky, but definitely better! No one was sick at the same time, so it's been one thing after another trying to get them all well. Phew! I do need some more time to catch up. :)

  10. Oops, it's ALMOST Sunday again, and of course I've had this post bookmarked for the whole week LOL. I hope your "little monsters" have recovered by now, and you were left with some time to sleep, admire your new bookshelf (I love the colour!) and...play LEGO haha. I was a LEGO freak when I was a kid! I didn't care much for dolls, but I loved stuffed/plastic animals and LEGO. I was always building stuff from my own mind!

    1. They have recovered! It took forever, but everyone is feeling much better. Too bad it's been raining nearly every day since. These kiddos want to be outside, and I'm sure sunshine would help. <3

Still no time to sleep! Ha! There's too much to do around the house once they've gone to bed for the night, and I'm determined to read for a little bit before bed. Maybe my body will adjust to fewer hours of rest?? ;)

My son tells me all the time that he's a Master Builder! He builds from his brain, and only needs the instructions to build what's on the box.
