I've been getting one or two comics each week, but today there were six! It might not seem like a lot, but I try to squeeze them in between my other reading, so it takes longer than you'd think. Also, we're still mid-move, so everything is bananas.

I really, really enjoyed the first issue of Firefly! I loved the television series, so I went a little insane when I found out they were making a comic. All of the characters were there, and it was wonderful being back on the Serenity. Even if you're not a Firefly fan, you should give this series a shot

I liked the original cover artwork for Domino, but haven't been impressed with the realistic covers. They always feel weird to me, like it's not an accurate representation of the comic, because the inside doesn't look anything like that. I wish the cover still resembled the Domino that's portrayed within the pages.

Runaways, Uncanny X-Men, West Coast Avengers -- all fantastic! If you enjoy V.E. Schwab's books, you'll probably like Shades of Magic The Steel Prince. It is a spinoff of sorts, but with pictures! I haven't read the book series this is based on, but the comic is awesome!

Sorry this was posted Wednesday night instead of Wednesday morning. Again, we're moving, which also means switching comic book stores, so I didn't have my list until recently. <3

Can't Wait Wednesday is a weekly event, hosted by Tressa at Wishful Endings, that highlights upcoming releases that we're anticipating and excited to read. It's a spinoff of the feature Waiting on Wednesday that was hosted by Jill at Breaking the Spine.

We Set the Dark on Fire (We Set the
Dark on Fire, #1) by Tehlor Kay Mejia
Expected publication: February 26th 2019
Synopsis (via Goodreads): At the Medio School for Girls, distinguished young women are trained for one of two roles in their polarized society. Depending on her specialization, a graduate will one day run a husband’s household or raise his children, but both are promised a life of comfort and luxury, far from the frequent political uprisings of the lower class. Daniela Vargas is the school’s top student, but her bright future depends upon no one discovering her darkest secret—that her pedigree is a lie. Her parents sacrificed everything to obtain forged identification papers so Dani could rise above her station. Now that her marriage to an important politico’s son is fast approaching, she must keep the truth hidden or be sent back to the fringes of society, where famine and poverty rule supreme.

On her graduation night, Dani seems to be in the clear, despite the surprises that unfold. But nothing prepares her for all the difficult choices she must make, especially when she is asked to spy for a resistance group desperately fighting to bring equality to Medio. Will Dani cling to the privilege her parents fought to win for her, or to give up everything she’s strived for in pursuit of a free Medio—and a chance at a forbidden love?

I really like the idea of her working for a resistance group, and that it conflicts with what her parents want for her (and I'm assuming with what she wants for herself), so it'll be interesting to see how she handles everything. Also, forbidden love always has the potential to be exciting!

  1. Love those Runaways and West Coast Avengers covers! And Domino- I'm hoping to pick up the first trade soon.

    1. Can you tell who the villain is by the silhouette on West Coast Avengers? The hair looks familiar, but I can't place it!

    2. Ooh and it's a homage cover too I think - haha

But no I do NOT know who that is- though I'm wracking my brain. the hair, hmm...

    3. Nice eye! Also, I Googled the answer! I really wanted to know who it was, and it'll be a few days before I can get to my recent comics -- moving day! It's finally here! The beginning of the end, haha. I'm just ready to be at the new place.

    4. Despite Googling who it was, it's not someone I'm familiar with, but he'll definitely make the comic more interesting...

    5. Ooh good luck with the move! And close to the holidays too- I hope all goes well. I bet it will be nice to be in your new place. :)

I googled it too and it's Noh-varr I guess? All I know is he's descended (I think) from the old Captain Marvel dude? I could be wrong, I don't know much about him either.

    6. Everything has been moved and put away! As for Noh-varr, all I know is that he's Kree (or at least part). I haven't seen him in any other comics, though I know he's been in a few. It'll be interesting to see how his past relationship with Kate impacts her current one. :)

  2. Love the cover of We Set the Dark on Fire! It's been quite a while since I read a good dystopian and this one sounds promising!

    1. I typically avoid the dystopian genre (overloaded on them a few years ago), but every once in awhile I stumble across one that I can't resist! This is one of them. <3

  3. I have been seeing this one around a lot. I am drawn to many parts of that synopsis. I like this two track life thing, the false pedigree, and of course, forbidden love.

    1. I'm curious how her parents managed to forge her background, because I'm assuming it's a very selective process. I'm pretty sure something like that would have cost them more than they had, so what did they sacrifice for their daughter? Does she know what they sacrificed, and is she willing to go against their wishes? A better future for herself, versus a potential better future for everyone -- hard choices! One is more of a guarantee than the other. And yes, the forbidden love aspect is intriguing! :)

  4. We Set the Dark on Fire sounds interesting - how these high society women are only trained for two things.

    1. Maintaining a house or raising children? Yes, those sound like lovely options in life. It's crazy that they are trained for those sole purposes, when many women today do both and still manage careers and personal lives. I'm curious why woman have been so limited in what they're allowed to do. Did something happen to prompt these actions?

  5. I really need to read The Steel Prince comics, as I LOVED the Shades of Magic books.

  6. Would my manga reads qualify for your link up? ๐ŸŽŽ

The cover for your Waiting On is wonderful. ๐Ÿ‘✨

    1. Yes! Your manga reads would definitely qualify! Please feel free to link your posts each week. <3 I really love the colors for the book cover!

  7. So odd to be reading about a character named Dani!! But I admit it made me very interested in the book, and it has a really intriguing premise...

    1. Hah! I don't think I've read a book with a Lindsi, but I'm sure it would make it more interesting. ;) Maybe this one will work for you!
