Lee Garbett (Illustrators)
Synopsis (via Goodreads): BOOM! Studios, along with visionary writer and director Joss Whedon (Buffy the Vampire Slayer, The Avengers), presents an all-new era of the pop culture phenomenon Firefly, as one of the most demanded stories in the franchise’s history is revealed for the first time! Focusing on family, loyalty, identity, and the price of redemption, writer Greg Pak (Mech Cadet Yu, Totally Awesome Hulk) and artist Dan McDaid (Judge Dredd: Mega City Zero) take you back to the battleground where Mal’s journey began—the War of Unification!

If you're anything like me, you loved the Firefly television series and cried when it was cancelled after one season. Fear not! Greg Pak and Boom! have brought it back to life.

The first issue transported me back to the Serenity, and took me on another adventure with Mal and the crew. They've landed themselves in hot water, but that's nothing new! I enjoy seeing how they get themselves out of endless bad situations.

Wash and Zoe are as adorable has ever! I laughed when Wash was playing with dinosaurs while his wife and friends were fighting for their lives. Everything about the scenario felt familiar, and it was definitely something Wash would do while he waited on the parts he needed for repairs. Jayne is still sarcastic and the one most likely to cause problems. I love that he always punches first and asks questions never. Inara and Kaylee, Simon and River, Book -- it was wonderful seeing everyone together again! I am so pumped for this series!

  1. I seriously need to watch this series. I think I just haven't because I know if I fall in love with it, I will be sad there was only one season but, I really do love Nathan Fillion. His new show, The Rookie, is so good!

    1. He's so great as Mal in the show! Everyone is! Even though it was cancelled after the first season, I always recommend this show to people. I hope you have a chance to watch it soon! I saw a preview for The Rookie, but haven't had a chance to watch it. Wasn't he in something else for a long time? Castle, right?

    1. Nice! It's nice to find a fellow Firefly lover! I believe this series is going to talk about Mal and Zoe's past (and their time during the war), which should be really interesting. The television show was only able to cover so much, and I hope the comic elaborates on all of that! <3

    1. It was such a great show! My friend Kate recommended it, but she failed to mention that the show had been cancelled after its first season. Needless to say, I binge-watched all of S1 and then cried when I discovered there wasn't a S2. The first issue of the comic was amazing! It was like I'd never left. I hope you enjoy it, too! :)

    1. It's so hard to pack and keep the house clean with three kiddos running around. I usually end up playing with them or going to the playground, so the packing doesn't get done and the house doesn't get cleaned, haha. I'll be less stressed once we've loaded everything up.

    1. Yes! It's an amazing show! I really wish there had been more than one season. If things like Riverdale and The Vampire Diaries have multiple seasons, Firefly should have gotten more than one. ;)

  8. I've never seen the series but my husband loves his science fiction series and was so disappointed when it was cancelled. It's a shame they don't turn this into a novel series, he would love them on audiobook. I'll have to mention the comics, he might really enjoy them too.

    1. You should get him the first issue as a gift! I really loved the television series, and still can't believe they never rebooted it. It has a very devoted fan base! Even after all of these years. :)

  13. Hey!

How are you? We are doing the same challenges this year! Hopefully we don't have too much on our plate and manage to finish them!

Just wanted to let you know that since you have previously linked up with Manga Monday on my blog, it has now evolved into the Anything Goes Monthly Feature! You can now link up manga, graphic novels, comic books and anime. At the end of the year, there will be a draw for a gift card.

If you are still interested, heres the link: https://bookishowlette.wordpress.com/2018/12/28/anything-goes-monthly-feature/

    1. We just finished moving, and now we're wrapping up loose ends at the old house. It'll be a few more weeks before we're completely finished -- stressful! I'm hoping to start January off on the right foot, and I'm really looking forward to these challenges. Did you set high goals for yourself?

It's been ages since I linked up to your Manga Monday, although that's probably because I do my own My Weekly Pull every week. It's hard to keep up with everyone's memes! Are you back now?? The last time I visited your blog, you'd been absent for awhile. Everything okay? And thanks for letting me know about your new feature. :)
