My Weekly Pull [41] & Can't Wait Wednesday [11]

My Weekly Pull is something I do every Wednesday to show which comics I had pulled for me that week! If you're into comics, or you're looking to start, please join me! If you decide to do your own post, leave a link in the comments. I would love to stop by and check it out!

Domino #7 by Gail Simone, David Baldeon, Gang Hyuk Lim
Shades of Magic #1 (of 4) The Steel Prince by V.E. Schwab, Andrea Olimpieri, Claudia SG Iannicello, Enrica Eren Angiolini

Jacob's comics for the week!
Transformers Unicron #5 (of 6) by John Barber, Alex Milne
Kick-Ass #8 by Steve Niles, Marcelo Frusin, David Mack
Amazing Spider-Man #7 by Nick Spencer, Humberto Ramos, Terry Dodson
Infinity Wars #4 (of 6) by Gerry Duggan, Mike Deodato, Javi Garron
Spider-Man Deadpool #40 by Robbie Thompson, Matt Horak, Dave Johnson
Venom #7 by Donny Cates, Iban Coello, Frank Cho

There's only one for me this week! I recently discovered V.E. Schwab is writing a comic, so of course I added it to my list. I've already called my LCS to make sure they reserve a copy for me!

I've successfully narrowed down my pull list, but I think Jacob is having a little more trouble with his. There are just so many that he's currently invested in! Personally, I treat my comics like I treat my books -- I stop reading them once I've lost interest in the story.

I'm not entirely sure what's happening on the Domino cover. I've really enjoyed the cover art in the past, so I was a little disappointed when they switched artists for this issue. I don't think this one conveys the characters as well, but it is seasonal.

We've recently switched from one comic store to another. We stumbled across this new place on a whim and really fell in love with the atmosphere. It's smaller, the staff is super friendly, and they have a larger collection of back issues (which the husband and I love to peruse). We started having issues with our current LCS a few weeks ago, so it just seemed like a good time to switch.

Can't Wait Wednesday is a weekly event, hosted by Tressa at Wishful Endings, that highlights upcoming releases that we're anticipating and excited to read. It's a spinoff of the feature Waiting on Wednesday that was hosted by Jill at Breaking the Spine.

Dream Keeper (The Dark Dreamer
Trilogy, #1) by Amber R. Duell
Expected publication: January 29th 2019
Synopsis (via Goodreads): The Sandman is seventeen-year-old Nora’s closest friend and best-kept secret. He has to be, if she doesn’t want a one-way ticket back to the psychiatrist. It took her too long to learn not to mention the hooded figure in her dreams to her mother, who still watches Nora as if she’ll crack. So when Nora’s friends start mysteriously dying gruesome deaths in their sleep, she isn’t altogether surprised when the police direct their suspicion at her. The Sandman is the only one she can turn to for answers. But the truth might be more than she bargained for…

For the last five years, the Sandman has spent every night protecting Nora. When he hid the secret to the Nightmare Lord’s escape inside her dreams, he never expected to fall in love with her. Neither did he think his nemesis would find her so quickly, but there’s no mistaking his cruel handiwork. The Nightmare Lord is tired of playing by the rules and will do anything to release his deadly nightmares into the world, even if that means tormenting Nora until she breaks.

When the Nightmare Lord kidnaps Nora’s sister, Nora must enter enemy territory to save her. The Sandman is determined to help, but if Nora isn’t careful, she could lose even more than her family to the darkness.

I love stories about dreams and the Sandman, but it's not something I've stumbled across too often. I really like the premise for this one, so I'm hoping the story really delivers!

  1. I've never heard of Dream Keeper, but it has certainly caught my attention! I had a weird obsession with dreams when I was younger. I wrote them all down and bought one of those "What Does Your Dream Mean?" guide books xD

    1. I've heard of those journals! They're supposed to help you remember your dreams, right? What did you end up doing with them? How did it guide you? I've always been curious! I love the idea of lucid dreaming -- how fun would that be?!

  2. Nice you found a comic store that you like better, especially since you and your husband are so into comics. Hope Dream Keeper doesn't disappoint. :)

    1. It's also a lot closer, so we're not driving as far to pick up comics. I'm trying to convince my husband to build storage shelves for the comics, because the boxes are cumbersome and have started taking over our closet space.

    1. I thought so! I don't know of too many other books about the Sandman (or Sandmen).

  4. The Sandman, now that sounds like a really interesting idea for a book.

  6. The Domino covers are kicking my butt! I just did a spooky covers post that will be out in a week or two and I used Domino #8 which is coming out next month- it's got Morbius the vampire preying on Domino and it's WICKED. Her covers rock.

I love a comic store with good back issue selection. That's a dying breed around here these days... everything is trades and new stuff now.

    1. I had to look it up -- creepy! It looks so lifelike! I guess they were going for a spooky, Halloween vibe? I'm not thrilled with the cover for this week, and I'm hoping they eventually go back to the original cover art. I thought those really captured the story and the characters inside. I'm looking forward to your post!

I love sifting through old comics. There's always a rush when you find something unexpected! :)

    1. Thanks! It doesn't come out until next year, so I still have to wait a few months. :)

    1. I'm really excited about V.E. Schwab's new comic! I still need to read the books they're based on, but I believe the comics are supposed to be a prequal.

  9. Wowww the cover for Dream Keeper is gorgeous! And the synopsis sounds good too, really. The Steel Prince I probably need to have even though I haven't even finished the actual series. Or maybe... I read them INSTEAD of the actual series. Seems like a perfectly legitimate plan ๐Ÿ˜‚

    1. I haven't read the series myself, but I think the comics are supposed to be a prequal! I was thinking I'd read the comics (spread out over the next four months), and then I would dive into the series. It's a solid plan! I've heard wonderful things about the books, and I'm excited to see how the crossover into comics.

  10. HOLD UP. Schwab is writing a comic? I am all for books to comics - they're a great way to bring me back to the world without having to reread the entire novelization (I mean, I haven't read Shades of Magic yet...).

I love the cover and premise of Dream Keeper as well - I have the ARC sitting on my Kindle app somewhere, so I'm hoping it'll be good? I'll find out come winter break when I sit down to read this, haha.

    1. She is! I believe there will only be four issues, and it's supposed to be a prequal to the series. Schwab herself has had a hand in all of it, including the writing, so it should feel authentic. (I still need to read the series, too.)

Oho! You already have an ARC for Dream Keeper?? You should read it an let me know how it is!
