Tom Taylor is only writing All-New Wolverine through #35, so I'm curious to see how Laura is portrayed in the next few issues. Old Woman Laura, I believe. I'll definitely try the new writer, because sometimes they have wonderful ideas, but I also like for them to be true to the characters I fell in love with.

New Mutants Dead Souls was pretty good. I wasn't expecting angsty teenagers, but I've always liked Magik. I'm curious and want to see where this story will go!

The last issue of Rogue & Gambit was sooo good! They've finally come face-to-face with the villain, which means things can only escalate from here. I also loved how romantic the last issue was! Jacob isn't a fan of Gambit, but the man loves Rogue. Always has! She's his everything, and Rogue is just as attached.

Rainbow Rowell is an author I really like, so why haven't I been reading her comic? Good question! I've located the first three issues through my LCS, and I'm going to grab the current one this week. I hope it's not too hard to find the others I'm missing!

Loving all the Venom covers! Especially the Scottie Young variant. Baby heroes are adorable.

Reading any new comics this week? Did you know Rainbow Rowell was the writer of the Runaways comic? How do you feel about Venom?

  1. I've only read the first RR Runaways and wasn't SUPER impressed, but I like her writing in general and will definitely give it another chance. You can't tell from just one issue. New Mutants Dead Souls looks pretty good, is that a frost giant on the cover? Rogue is the bomb, always liked her, but I'm way behind on whatever is going on with her and Gambit. They must still be together though??

I always like those baby covers too...

    1. BUMMER! I hate that you weren't super impressed with Runaways. I like to read the first three issues before deciding if it's something I want to continue reading. You never know! It can take a few issues to get the story going, and then you're obsessed.

I think that's a frost giant, but I'll have to let you know after I've read it! They were being sent somewhere at the end of the last issue, but we are not privy to the specifics.

Rogue is badass. I love her! Based on this comic... they've had a thing since forever. It's a very, very complicated relationship with a LOT of ups and downs, but I really like how they've been in this one. I'm a little sad there are only 5 issues.

Scottie Young variants are adorable and amazing.

    2. Yeah I'll probably read more. You have to give an author a chance and one issue not enough. I've only read Fangirl by her but liked it a lot...

Rogue is the best. Love her relationship both with Mystique and Wolverine.

    3. I've only read Eleanor & Park! It was pretty good. I liked it, but didn't love it. Maybe I'll try Fangirl next!

I do love Rogue, and I adore her relationship with Wolverine, but I don't know much about her relationship with Mystique. She called her "mom" one issue and I was like, "What?!" Haha!

  2. I need to read Rogue and Gambit. Who couldn’t love them?

    1. My husband! Haha! He does like Rogue *wink, but he's not a fan of Gambit. I was thinking of getting a Rogue costume for Halloween this year.

  3. *waves*
Just here in my clueless bubble

  4. I had no idea Rainbow Rowell wrote the Runaways comics. I really want to read those now! lol

    1. There are actually a few YA authors that write comics! Leigh Bardugo (Wonder Woman), Marie Lu (Batman), Sarah J. Maas (Catwoman), and Margaret Stohl (The Mighty Captain Marvel). I'm sure there are others I'm missing!

  5. These looks good Lindsi! Rainbow Rowell also writes comics?! My! Really need to get started soon ;)

    1. I've realized that not too many people know their favorite YA authors also write comics, lol.

  6. At the risk of sounding as though I hate all authors, Rainbow Rowell is another author that I can't get into. The hype lets me down every damn time. In your comment to Lauren up there, the young adult authors who've written comics, do you know if the comic is actually available too? I have Wonder Woman unread on my shelves but would love if they had the illustrated versions and can't seem to find any information

    1. I could do a little research for you! I'm not very familiar with DC comics (we're a Marvel family that occasionally branches out to Image and IDW). Rainbow Rowell writes for Marvel, so I know more about her work with them and how they put it out there. From just a brief search, it looks like the Wonder Woman comic is going to be more like a graphic novel. I'm assuming a chunk of a book instead of monthly issues, but I'm not sure. Let me look into it and get back to you! (read: let me also ask my husband when he gets home and see what he knows, haha)

I've read Eleanor & Park, which I enjoyed but didn't love. There are just a lot of small things about the book that stuck with me over time. Like, how the main character's mom would always put vanilla behind her ears to make her smell nice without the use of perfume. I still want to read some of her other books, and also try this Runaways series! My LCS has raved about it.

  7. I haven't tried any but I love to see yours

    1. Thank you! Maybe one day you'll see something you like and want to try. :)
