The Sunday Post [60]

The Sunday Post is a weekly meme hosted by Kimberly at the Caffeinated Reviewer! It's an opportunity to share news, post a recap for the previous week, showcase books, and highlight what's planned for the week ahead.

News:

Halito! Thank you guys for being so understanding about my lack of content these past few weeks. It's been hard to juggle my parents both being hospitalized with COVID, remodeling and moving into our new house, and my son's never-ending school work. (Seriously, he's staring at a screen for most of the day and then they have him doing at least an hour's worth of homework every night.) My parents are both home and doing better, although my mother still uses an oxygen tank to help her breathe most days. She's started wearing two masks when she leaves the house, so I guess that's one positive to come from this ordeal (she wasn't wearing one at all before).

Our new house is really coming together! I've been posting some pictures on my Instagram, but we still have a lot of work left to do. My husband is making our kitchen counter, and I'm trying to repaint all of the rooms. We finally put the trampoline back together, so the kids are happy. ๐Ÿ˜ Unfortunately, the guy that was supposed to remove some of our trees totally ghosted us, and we're not sure how to proceed from here. Fingers crossed someone else can do the job for the same amount! (Removing trees in VA is apparently a VERY lucrative business - - geez.)

I am OVER homeschooling my child. He wants to go to school, I want him to go to school, his sisters want him to go to school (hah!), but we're stuck online because the United States doesn't want to take this pandemic seriously. They're not even talking about it anymore! Thank the stars Biden won the election (WHOOP!), because we really need a President that has a plan to heal our country (both literally and figuratively).

I still have a few posts I need to backdate (My Weekly Pulls & Can't wait Wednesdays, blog tours, etc.), so please be patient while I try to catch up on everything I've missed. I can't wait to visit your blogs and see what you've been reading! I've been listening to a lot of audiobooks (they keep my ears and mind occupied while I'm painting or unpacking), so those reviews will be posted in the next week or so.

Oh! I've been working on something for our new neighborhood! I hinted at it several weeks ago and Roberta assumed it had something to do with wood, but this has zero woodworking involved! It took a lot of phone calls and emails, but I'm finally able to move on to the final stages - - ahh! I cannot wait to share it with you.

Stay safe, everyone.

Previous week on the blog:

I couldn't resist...

  • The Bromance Book Club has been a delight so far! I can't believe I'm just now getting to this one! Aren't there three books now?
  • I'm reading the Frozen book with my girls, and Aliens Ate My Homework with my son. Both have been great so far! I think the kids are really enjoying both.

Giveaways:

I'm hosting a 48-hour giveaway on Twitter for two hardback copies of The Only Good Indians by Stephen Graham Jones. "Since my fellow Native Americans really came out to vote this year, I wanted to do a giveaway for a book written by an Indigenous author." Bonus: It's Native American Heritage Month!

The author actually retweeted my post, so that was amazing:

3rd Blogoversary!

THREE YEARS?! I feel like I just started blogging again! I also blame 2020 for this post being late. I feel like I am constantly playing catch-up this year. My husband has a weird hybrid schedule (half here teleworking, and half in-person at work), we bought a house, my son is doing school online, and all three are participating in socially-distanced soccer (it weirdly works, so yay). I feel like I never have any time for myself, and I'm constantly having to choose which aspects of my life get the most attention. Sadly, reading and blogging have taken a backseat to most things. Regardless, I love blogging and the community I am a part of! I plan on sticking around for many more years, but hopefully those will be less chaotic. ;)

Thank you for being patient with my sporadic posts and less-frequent comments! I know everyone is dealing with their own issues while the world steadily increases in insanity. I appreciate and value each of you, and I really love visiting your blogs whenever I have time. Thank you for being such good friends, funny tweeters, and stunning photographers. Your presence in my life has been a bright spot, even if you think those posts and comments aren't making a difference.

This year I will be giving away two vastly different books: The Only Good Indians by Stephen Graham Jones & Saucy by Cynthia Kadohata. I thought The Only Good Indians would be a good scary fall read, and I really wanted to support an indigenous author. Saucy is an ARC and just sounds super adorable, so it's an option for my fellow scaredy cats. ;)

Rules: This giveaway officially starts on September 25, 2020 and ends on October 9, 2020 (two weeks!). The winner will be announced on October 10, 2020 on this post within the Rafflecopter form, and also notified by email. The winner will have 48 hours to respond or I will have Rafflecopter choose another winner (read my full giveaway policy here).
