The Sunday Post [55]

The Sunday Post is a weekly meme hosted by Kimberly at the Caffeinated Reviewer! It's an opportunity to share news, post a recap for the previous week, showcase books, and highlight what's planned for the week ahead.

News:

It's. Still. Raining. We actually went for a walk yesterday in the rain just to get out of the house. We donned our raincoats, boots, and umbrellas, then went for a stroll around the neighborhood. I'm sure we received many odd looks from passerby (safely in their cars), or those enjoying the weather from their porches and windows, but my monsters absolutely loved it. Eventually we were shoeless and soaked, so naturally we started trying to kick water at each other as we ran down the sidewalk. ;)

We made an offer on a house and negotiations ensued! Inspections are this week. The stress is real, friends. I'm ready for this to be over so we can move and get resettled somewhere else.

Previous week on the blog:

What I'm currently reading:

Ink & Sigil (Ink & Sigil, #1) by Kevin Hearne
Quintessence by Jess Redman
Lair of Dreams (The Diviners, #2) by Libba Bray ๐ŸŽง

Ink & Sigil is delightful! Why haven't I heard of this author before? Still working my way through Quintessence with the girls, and will hopefully finish Lair of Dreams before my library hold expires (again).

What I plan on reading next:

All Eyes on Her by Laurie Elizabeth Flynn
The Inheritance Games (The Inheritance Games, #1) by Jennifer Lynn Barnes
Where Dreams Descend (Kingdom of Cards, #1) by Janella Angeles

What I'm watching:

We watched Magic Camp this morning as a family! It was a fun movie that we all enjoyed. My son wants to finish watching Godzilla, but the girls weren't impressed with it.

  1. Rain? What's rain? Why do you have a monopoly on rain? *cries in the relentless heat*

Yay for the house! I hope you'll manage to make it real!

    1. And it's still raining! ๐Ÿ˜‚ We actually rode our bikes in the rain yesterday, and then the kiddos played on a playground. The best part? No masks or social distancing, because we were the only ones there! I would definitely share it with you, if I could. The mosquitos are relentless.

    1. It's been less stressful so far! Inspectors checked out the house earlier this week, so we just have to wait and see what happens next. We asked for certain aspects of the home to be fixed prior to having an appraiser out, but haven't heard back from the seller yet. :)

    1. Yes! It is both exciting and stressful, haha. I'm already ready for it to be over - - bought, repaired, cleaned, and all of our stuffed moved in. :)

  4. I love rainy weather. I would rather be in rain than sunny weather.

    1. I love rainy weather, but I also like sunny weather when it's warm and not too hot!

  5. A new house is stressful but I hope all goes well! We are thinking about selling our house and are busy redecorating and decluttering which in my case means disposing of books!

    Have a good week.

    1. I always go through my books when we move! Some things have been on my shelves for ages, and there's no point keeping them if I'm not going to read them. I also only want to keep the books I've LOVED. <3 Good luck redecorating and selling!

  6. when I was kid we always played in the rain. We would race popsicle sticks down the street to the sewer drain, and everyone knows puddle jumping is the best. Good times. I am hoping to read the new Jennifer Lynn Barnes book. I had too many books in my pile and sadly could not join a tour for it, but I feel like the library will get it. I hope it's great and look forward to your review. Good luck with the house! I hope all goes well.

    1. I remember racing popsicle sticks! We would also float down the flooded areas in a sandbox turtle shell! My dad would spin and push us along if we got stuck. :) They also had this huge planter that was empty one summer, and you could easily fit two small children inside. It was like a mini swimming pool.

The Inheritance Games was AMAZING. One of my favorites this year! I definitely recommend it, Sam. I'm just sad I have to wait forever for the next one. ;)

  7. Good luck with the house! A stressful time but exhilarating too when it all works out, I'm sure! And that's funny about the rain! Sounds fun. :)

Quintessence looks good. I was disappointed with Godzilla, sadly. If you're talking about the most recent one. I wanted it to be soooo good!

    1. We've been playing in the rain nonstop! It makes me wish we had a mud room, haha. ;) Quintessence is waaay more science-focused than I was expecting. My son keeps asking what certain terms are (he made me start the book over for him when he found out I was reading it to the girls without him), and I have to Google them! ๐Ÿ˜‚

I haven't seen the newest Godzilla! Sorry is was a disappointment.

  8. Fingers crossed on the house offer. I hope it's accepted and the process goes smoothly. It's such a long, stressful process.

My kids used to love playing in the rain :)

Wishing you a great reading week

    1. There were a few issues we would like them to address, so we'll see how that goes! We're waiting to hear back on that now. :) Playing in the rain is super fun! However, I would like a little sunshine right now, haha. Everything is wet and soggy! Nothing has had sufficient time to dry.

  10. Nothing wrong with walking in the rain!! I hope everything works out with the house and you can get resettled soon.

I really love The Diviners series, but I've only read the first two. I have the third though, so I hope to read that one soon! I really loved All Eyes On Her, so I hope you enjoy it!

    1. We actually biked in the rain yesterday! The girls didn't want to get wet, so I attached the trailer to my bicycle, but they still got out and played at the playground. I was like, "I thought you didn't want to get wet?" and they said, "Well, now we do want to get wet!" Kids. ;)

I've been really enjoying The Diviners series as well, but the second book is SO LONG. I've had to check it out several times, haha. All Eyes on Her was excellent! <3

  11. We've had unbearable Texas heat for the last week, so we were happy to have a front blow in with some cooler weather and a touch of rain. Congrats on the new house! We were on that same journey at the start of the year, so I can totally relate to the stress of the inspection/negotiations. Our realtor told us, "if this feels like home, then you know you are making the right decision." We definitely feel at home now!

    1. I was born and raised in Texas, so I know how you feel! My husband's last duty station was in San Antonio, so I got to experience that Texas heat again for a few years. ;) The rain was always a welcome respite. I'm so happy you feel at home in your new home! I just want to get through the buying/moving process so we can start fixing and moving into our new house.

I'm eager to hear your thoughts on Where Dreams Descend and The Inheritance Games, both books are on my TBR as well :)
Happy reading and have a lovely week <3

    1. Fingers and toes are crossed! We sent some requests to the sellers after having an inspector out, so we're still waiting to see how they respond to those. Hopefully, they'll just agree to fix everything and we can move forward. I'm sure it won't be that easy though. ;)

The Inheritance Games was fantastic! I read it in a single day! I'm started Where Dreams Descend today. <3

  13. I am jealous that it is raining where you are. It's just been hothothot every day where I live for weeks now. Our AC needs a break lol.

Good luck on the house! That's awesome!

    1. Well, we can't stay inside forever, so we decided to embrace the rain (as long as there's no thunder & lightning). :)
