The Sunday Post [29]

The Sunday Post is a weekly meme hosted by Kimberly at the Caffeinated Reviewer! It's an opportunity to share news, post a recap for the previous week, showcase books, and highlight what's planned for the week ahead.

News:

It's been a few weeks since I've participated in The Sunday Post! Time keeps slipping through my fingers, and unfortunately that means blogging takes the biggest hit. I should have more time this month since soccer is ending and my plate is being scraped clean. I've really enjoyed the experience, but it's exhausting and very time-consuming.

We get an extra hour today, which I'm thrilled about! I stick to the same schedule, so it means the monsters have an earlier nap time and go to bed sooner. It's losing an hour that I hate. Thankfully, it finally feels like fall here, and we've had cooler weather with a few icy mornings. I actually had to find the windshield scraper the other day! Although, I did contemplate hanging my head out of the window like a dog, haha.

My son was sick earlier this week, so it's no surprise I have it now. It seems to be a basic cold, but that doesn't make it any easier to deal with (fingers crossed the girls don't get it). I coached a soccer game yesterday morning, and played in a volleyball tournament the rest of the day. I wish I could've skipped it, but we didn't have any extra people. We came in second, so not too bad. The ball kept hitting my new tattoos, so they're smarting today. If you want to see what they look like, check out my Instagram! I always post pictures when I get a new one.

What I'm currently reading:

Pure (Pure, #1) by Julianna Baggott
Songs from the Deep by Kelly Powell
Tuesday Mooney Talks to Ghosts by Kate Racculia

I've owned a physical copy of Pure for years, but never picked it up. Funny how that happens! I recently decided to try the audio when it popped up on Libby, but I'm not sure I like it. The world is disturbing and interesting, but I don't feel connected to the characters or feel invested in the outcome. I'm going to give it another hour or so before making a decision.

Songs of the Deep has been eerily mysterious so far, and I'm hoping Moira interacts with the sirens soon. I'll be disappointed if they're just something seen from a distance throughout the story, because I think they're fascinating and lovely creatures.

Tuesday Mooney Talks to Ghosts has been raved about all over the blogosphere, so I cannot wait to pick it up later today!

What I plan on reading next:

Girls Like Us by Randi Pink
Coral by Sara Ella

What I'm watching:

Dancing with the Stars isn't something I watch every week, but I do like to watch the Disney and Halloween episodes! They're always so extravagant and fun. However, I'm really disappointed by the most recent elimination, because Sean Spicer should not still be a contender on this show. Yes, he goes out there and tries, but he's easily the worst dancer at this point. It doesn't make sense that he's saved week after week, when it's supposed to be about their skills and improvements as dancers.

I recently watching the season finale for The Great British Bake Off, and it was phenomenal! It's easily one of my favorite shows, and I enjoy how nice everyone is! They're always willing to lend a hand, or offer words of encouragement. They're competing, but there's a sense of comradery and friendship that I adore. I love seeing the clips and pictures of them hanging out together once the show is over. They've clearly made lasting relationships with each other!

The Masked Singer is a show that I love to watch while I'm cleaning the house! It hasn't been on in awhile, since the World Series has taken over television, so I've been bummed about that. I'm always surprised when they take off their masks! It's fun to make guesses, but their performances are always a blast to watch. Extravagant and entertaining! I really liked The Skeleton, but he's already been eliminated. If I had to root for someone now, it would be The Fox or The Leopard. However, I do like Thingamajig and The Purple Flower (that costume is amazing).

I'm slowly working my way through Friends. I dislike all of the fat-shaming and womanizing, and doubt they would get away with those comments today. It's crazy when you think about movies and television shows from different time periods, and what they could and could not get away with. For instance, take the language in The Goonies. If kids said shit or damn today, they'd get into trouble.

  1. Congratulations on your first season as coach. I am sure your son is happy you were a part of it all with him. I am reading When the Stars Lead to You and it's totally my vibe. I am really enjoying it. Hope you like it too

    1. I'm so happy you received a copy! You've mentioned wanting to read it a few times. ;) If it's totally your vibe, I'm sure I'll enjoy it immensely! <3

  2. I watched the GBBO for the first time last year - it was the holiday addition. I hope to continue the tradition because I love the sweets that they make.

    1. I've been meaning to watch last year's holiday edition! The food always looks divine! You should definitely check out the regular show as well. <3

  3. I hope you are feeling better very soon. I like the cooler temps but it's going to get frigid a couple nights this week. Enjoy those new reads!

    1. Thanks! I hate being sick, because I can't curl up in bed and read or sleep. I'm still a mom and that comes with endless tasks and responsibilities. ;) We had freezing temperatures a few nights last week! We had to cover our pipes and faucets.

  4. I really like The Masked Singer too. It's fun to try and guess who's under those costumes.

    1. Yes! Rumer Willis from last season was AMAZING. I had no idea!

  5. Of course, I was already up-to-date with your sports shenanigans and your cold issues, thanks to Twitter. Congrats again on your achievements (especially in your time of misery LOL)! Now you can go back to reading and blogging to your heart's content (I mean...monsters permitting ๐Ÿ˜‰). And again - get well soon!

I don't like sit-coms, so I've never watched Friends...but I'm not surprised by your comment. If a ground-breaking show like Buffy could be problematic on so many levels, I wouldn't expect one from the same era that didn't revolve around a kick-ass chick to be more politically correct LOL.

    1. Ah, yes. Twitter is where I usually voice my thoughts! ;) I'm still surviving in this time of misery, and really wish my body would beat this sickness so I can move on with my life. My house is a disaster right now, since I haven't had the energy or inclination to do ANYTHING. My email is out of control... ugh. Send help! <3

Buffy! Her relationship with Giles (and how present he is in their lives) is yucky. Like, dude has no boundaries and it's creepy.

  6. I haven't been that active on my blog lately either. There's just so many things to do and so little time to do them. But now with the time change, hopefully I'll be able to have more time to do the things I need to do. Hope you have a great week!

    1. How so? After the initial day where you gain an hour, things go back to normal! 24 hours to get everything done in a day, and it's still not enough. ;)

  7. Congrats on the volleyball! And ooh you're reading Songs of the Deep? I'm gonna read that one soon too. I hope it's awesome. That cover is amazing!

  8. The Great British Baking Show is a favourite of mine too, in large part because it doesn’t rely on manufactured drama and discord.

Wishing you a great reading week

    1. Right? It's all about the baking! The only drama comes from someone dropping something they've made, or someone getting too stressed out and having a mini-meltdown. Totally understandable reactions though!

  9. Great books coming up, I hope you like them all and I hope you get better soon. Little cold or not, it is always hard when you are the mom and don't really get a break. ;) *hugs*

    1. Truth! Yesterday I let the girls run wild throughout the house just so I could nap on the couch. Everything hurt and I had a fever, but I'm regretting my decision today -- so much to clean up! They attempted to get into their Halloween candy, so it's good I had that locked up tight. ;)

  10. I'm glad soccer is going well, but I'm sure it will be nice when the season ends. I hope you feel better soon - colds can really be the worst! I like The Masked Singer, but I tend to always miss it since I have a dance class during that time.

    1. If you have Hulu, you can always watch it the next day! That's what I do. We don't have a television, so any shows I watch are online. :)

  11. I've had Pure for ages as well, but never had the inclination to read it. Sigh. Story of the number of books in my shelves.

    Have a great week, Lindsi!

    1. From what I've read so far, you're not missing much! I doubt it's one I'll finish. I'm slowly working my way through the physical books on my shelves, and this one was next on the list. Ironically, most of the older books I thought I'd LOVE, are the ones I'm not really enjoying.

  12. "Time keeps slipping through my fingers, and unfortunately that means blogging takes the biggest hit." I've never related to this sentence so much; I haven't been participating in The Sunday Post for WEEKS which kind of saddens me a little, but maybe sometime in the near future? I'm super thrilled about the extra hour too! Too bad I'll be feeling like time hasn't actually changed in about a week, though. Here's to hoping the girls don't get sick!

    1. I never feel like I have an extra hour, haha. I do enjoy the hour of sleep I get on the one day, but then everything feels normal after that. Although, I do have the kids on an earlier nap/bedtime schedule, so that's nice. :)

  14. I love when we switch to this time. I much prefer it to DST. I like when it gets dark early. :) So sorry you’re sick! I hope by now you’re starting to feel better. Girl Like Us sounds interesting and I’m loving the cover for When the Stars Lead to You.

    1. It's a little weird waking up after the sunrise instead of before, but I do like it on the weekends! We get out earlier and enjoy the sunshine. It's hard to squeeze everything in during the week before it gets dark. I am feeling MUCH improved today! Thanks!

  15. I'm a weird one as I don't watch the GBBO. When it starts, everyone at work is chattering about it and I'm in the corner not giving a single crap. There was a ruckus over here with who won this season. Apparently "he shouldn't have won" but again I paid it no attention and have no opinion on whether he deserved it or not...
As for DWTS we have a version called Strictly Come Dancing and I'm loving it. We have Halloween week (it was awesome) but we don't get a disney week. :( We do get movie week though so maybe that's our equivalent?

Hope you kick the cold quickly! It's been one thing after another for you lately. I feel so much sympathy for you! I've been there too many times... Snot monsters. People should inform people of this before they have kids, lol.

    1. I only recently started watching GBBO! I think I started when Prue did? It's been a few seasons. David totally deserved to win! You tell your co-workers your blogging friend said they're being ridiculous. ;) He was calm every episode and made food he enjoyed. The judges didn't always like his flavors (he tended to go spicy), but his final showstopper was PHENOMENAL. Steph and Alice panicked and didn't do well on the last episode, so the judges had to factor that into the rest of the season. (I'm going to stop now since you said you didn't care, haha).

You'll have to let me know what movie week entails! That sounds really interesting! :)

Truth! The monsters get over being sick waaaaay sooner than I do. It's like it lingers now that I've reached 30. ;)
