Repeat by Kylie Scott
[Release Blitz + Excerpt + Review]

Hello! Welcome to the release blitz for Repeat by Kylie Scoot hosted by InkSlinger PR. I'm really happy to share my thoughts on this book with you, and just the book in general! I've enjoyed Scott's previous books (particularly the Stage Dive series), and was thrilled to have an opportunity to read this one. It did not disappoint!

Title: REPEAT
Author: Kylie Scott
Release Date: April 7th 2019

"A page-turning romantic feast that will have you desperate for more. I was immediately hooked." —#1 New York Times bestselling author Rachel Van Dyken

From New York Times bestselling author Kylie Scott comes an irresistible new romance.

When a vicious attack leaves 25-year-old Clementine Johns with no memory, she's forced to start over. Now she has to figure out who she was and why she made the choices she did - which includes leaving the supposed love of her life, tattoo artist Ed Larsen, only a month before.

Ed can hardly believe it when his ex shows up at his tattoo parlor with no memory of their past, asking about the breakup that nearly destroyed him. The last thing he needs is more heartache, but he can't seem to let her go again. Should they walk away for good, or does their love deserve a repeat performance?

"On the floor, Gordon farts, and we both wrinkle our noses. Dog farts are gross. Another definite."
I received an ARC from the author and InkSlinger PR in exchange for an honest review. My thoughts and opinions are my own. Any quotes I use are from an unpublished copy and may not reflect the finished product.

I absolutely loved this! I read Repeat in a single day, and would have read it in a single sitting if my children didn't constantly need something, but my little monsters always come first. Clem and Ed were wonderful characters that will forever have a place in my heart!

Kylie Scott always writes super authentic characters, and it's impossible not to fall in love with them! Clem is struggling to find herself after losing everything that made her, well, her. She has no memory of her friends and family, or who she was as a person. She can no longer work at her job, because she doesn't remember how to do it, and it would take too long for her to re-learn. At twenty-five, she's starting from scratch, and becoming a different version of herself in the process.

All of this is equally complicated for Ed, because he remembers both past and present Clem, and he has to come to terms with the person she is now. He fell in love with her once, and we see his emotional turmoil as he starts to fall in love with her again. It's not easy, because there's a lot of baggage, but we slowly learn about their breakup and how it impacted both of them. Even their friends were burned in their breakup, so Clem has to deal with their damaged feelings, despite not remembering what happened or her role in it.

It was beautiful and complicated, emotional and little scary. There's a mystery component to the story as well, which added an additional layer, and made me question everyone's intentions. Everyone that wasn't Clem or Ed was suspicious, and I wondered if they had ulterior motives. It wasn't difficult to narrow it down at the end, but it was really well-done.

The secondary characters were lovely, especially Iris, and I enjoyed their parts in the story. I really hope we get another book from Leif's perspective (Ed's brother)! Also, Clem doesn't remember having sex or kissing, even though she knows she's done it before. All of her sexual encounters with Ed were new and exciting for her, and incredibly hot for us! The man is impressive and gorgeous. He's also incredibly sweet and protective, and I only wanted the best for them both.

I really have no complaints about this one. It was perfect and amazing, and everything I wanted! If you haven't read Kylie Scott before, I highly recommended her books. I'll leave you with one of my favorite quotes from this one!

"Romance isn’t all kissing and bedroom action, you know. Though there’s often some of that too. Don’t be a mindless slave to misogynistic prejudices. That’s never a good look. Think for yourself, form your own opinions. These are stories about women standing up for themselves and what they believe in. Women working to be whole and demanding what they deserve."

Excerpt:

“Amnesia,” he mutters for about the hundredth time. Usually, ‘fuck’, ‘shit’, or some blasphemy follows that statement. This time, however, there’s nothing. Maybe he’s finally getting used to the idea.

I sit on the opposite side of the booth, inspecting the cocktail menu. It’s as gross and sticky as the table.

“Can I get you guys something else?” asks the waiter with a practiced smile.

“I’ll have a piรฑa colada.”

“You hate coconut,” Ed Larsen informs me, slumped back in his seat.

“Oh.”

“Try a margarita.”

“What he said,” I tell the waiter, who presumably thinks we have some kinky dom-sub thing going on.

Ed orders another lite beer, watching me the entire time. I don’t know if his blatant examination is better or worse than my sister’s furtive looks. He’d suggested going back to his place to talk. I declined. I don’t know the guy, and it didn’t feel safe. So instead we came here. The bar is dark and mostly empty, given it’s the middle of the afternoon, but at least it’s public.

“How old are you?” I ask.

In response, he pulls his wallet out of his back pocket and passes me his driver’s license.

“Thank you.” Information is good. More definites. “You’re seven years older than me.”

“Yeah.”

“How serious were we? Did we stay together for long?”

He licks his lips, turns away. “Don’t you have someone else you can ask about all this? Your sister?”

I just look at him.

He frowns, but then sighs. “We saw each other for about half a year before moving in together. That lasted eight months.”

“Pretty serious.”

“If you say so.” His face isn’t happy. But I need to know.

“Did I cheat on you?”

Now the frown comes with a glare.

Despite his don’t-fuck-with-me vibes, it’s hard not to smile. The man is blessed in the DNA department. He’s so pretty. Masculine pretty. I’m not used to being attracted to people, and he’s giving me a heart-beating-harder, tingles-in-the-pants kind of sensation, which is a lot new and a little overwhelming. Makes me want to giggle and flip my hair at him like some vapid idiot.

But I don’t. “It’s just that I’m getting some distinct vibes that somehow I’m the bad guy in all this.”

“No, you didn’t cheat on me,” he growls. “And I didn’t cheat on you either, no matter what you might have thought.”

My brows jump. “Huh. So that’s why we broke up?”

“This is fucked. Actually, it was fucked the first time.” He turns away and finishes the last of his beer. “Jesus.”

I just keep quiet, waiting.

“You have no memories, no feelings about me whatsoever?”

“No, nothing.”

A muscle jumps in his jaw, his hands sitting fisted on the table.

“It’s called traumatic retrograde amnesia,” I say, trying to explain. “What they call my ‘episodic memory’ is gone—all my memories of events and people and history. Personal facts. But I can still make a cup of coffee, read a book, or drive a car. Stuff like that. Things that were done repetitively, you know? Not that I’m allowed to drive at the moment. My car’s sitting outside my sister’s house gathering dust. They said to give it some time before I got behind the wheel again, make sure I’m okay. Also, apparently the part of my brain in charge of inhibitions and social restrictors, et cetera, is a bit messed up, so I don’t always react right, or at least not necessarily how you’d expect me to behave based on previous me.”

“Previous you?”

I shrug. “It’s as good a label for her as any.”

“She’s you. You’re her.”

“Maybe. But she’s still a complete stranger to me.”

“Christ,” he mutters.

This is awkward. “I’m upsetting you. I’m sorry. But there are things I need to know, and I’m hoping you can help me out with some of them.”

  3. I'm excited for this one. I totally enjoyed Kylie's Stage Dive series and I loved her YA, Trust. The synopsis of this one just screams "winner!" :) I'm actually listening to the audio of Kylie's post-apocalyptic/zombie/romance right now. I think it was her first book ever and... yeah, it shows. LOL

    1. I haven't read Trust! What's it about? I don't think I've heard of her post-apocalyptic zombie romance, haha. ;)

    2. Trust was a story about a guy and girl (strangers) involved in a convenience store robbery that turned deadly. Afterwards they ended up at the same school and began to help each other deal with the aftermath. It was SO good!

    3. I'll definitely be checking that one out! Thanks!

  4. Thanks so much for sharing this, I really like the sound of it and I actually prefer my romance outside of the bedroom in books, it feels more real and like the author is actually trying instead of relying on sex to make a book good (which it honestly doesn't in my opinion!).

    1. I love that it was a romance/mystery, and that they had to re-learn to love one another. It was really well done! There is sex, but it's about so much more than that. I hope you enjoy this, and have a chance to read it soon! <3

  5. Lindsi great review. Enjoyed the expert. I have wanting to try her two series and have yet. I am liking the idea of this book with heroine having no memory.

    1. She essentially lost all knowledge of the people she knew, which is scary, and also very sad. Her mother had passed away previously, and Clem has no memory of her. There are only pictures, but they don't hold any emotional attachment for her. I hope you have a chance to read this one! I would also recommend her Stage Dive series, especially Play, because that's Mal's story. ;)

    2. Can I read the Stage Dive series out of order? How sad her mother passed and had no memory of her.

    3. You can! There might be a few missed details, but every book in the series can stand on its own. :)

    1. This one wasn't overly romantic, and I enjoyed the mystery aspect! It was interesting to see how Ed and Clem's relationship developed for both the first (Clem) and second (Ed) time. They both had a lot going on, and a lot of issues to work through. I hope you give this one a shot! :)

    1. The Stage Dive series was so much fun, but I think this one is my new favorite! I really hope we get another book from Leif's perspective. She sort of left him in a dark place, and he really needs to find love. ;)

    1. Kylie Scott is amazing! I really enjoyed her Stage Dive series (Mal's story was my favorite). You definitely need to read something of hers. I've heard good things about Trust, too. It's not one that I've had a chance to read, though. Repeat was fantastic! You'll have to let me know what you think when you have a chance to read something of hers. <3

    2. So I went on Goodreads to add this book and realized one of my friends told me I had to buy Trust because it consumed her. So I did. Almost two years ago, ack. I'm putting it in my must read during summer break list. ๐Ÿ˜Š
