My Weekly Pull [54] & Can't Wait Wednesday [24]

My Weekly Pull is something I do every Wednesday (we took the kiddos to LEGOLAND this Wednesday and I forgot to schedule this post!) to show which comics I had pulled for me that week! If you're into comics, or you're looking to start, please join me! If you decide to do your own post, there's a link-up at the bottom. I would love to stop by and check it out!

Oliver #1 by Gary Whitta, Darick Robertson
Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man #2 by Tom Taylor, Juan Cabal, Andrew Robinson

Jacob's comics for the week!
Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles #90 by Tom Waltz, Dave Wachter, Kevin Eastman
Guardians of the Galaxy #1 by Donny Cates, Geoff Shaw, Steve Skroce
Man Without Fear #4 by Jed MacKay, Danilo Beyrouth, Declan Shalvey

Jacob stumbled across Oliver last night, and it sounded like something we'd both enjoy! "OLIVER re-imagines Charles Dickens' most famous orphan as a post-apocalyptic superhero fighting to liberate a war-ravaged England while searching for the truth about his own mysterious origins." Also, that cover is awesome! I still haven't read the first issue of Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man, but I plan on getting to it soon. Moving impacts more than your location! We're behind on everything.

Can't Wait Wednesday is a weekly event, hosted by Tressa at Wishful Endings, that highlights upcoming releases that we're anticipating and excited to read. It's a spinoff of the feature Waiting on Wednesday that was hosted by Jill at Breaking the Spine.

The Year They Fell by David Kreizman
Expected publication: July 30th 2019
Synopsis (via Goodreads): The worst moment of your life can help determine who you really are.

Josie, Jack, Archie, Harrison, and Dayana were inseparable as preschoolers. But that was before high school, before parties and football and getting into the right college. Now, as senior year approaches, they're basically strangers to each other.

When their parents die in the same plane crash, most of them are suddenly on their own. And they're the only people who can really understand what that feels like.

They have to face the issues that drove them apart--and the secrets their parents left behind. How can you keep up appearances when you're falling apart inside? How can you forgive parents who betrayed you? How do you tell someone you've been in love with them since preschool?

The answers will help forge a new family in this heartbreaking, funny, and surprising young adult novel from award-winning storyteller David Kriezman. It's a deeply felt, complex journey into adulthood, exploring issues of grief, sexual assault, racism, and trauma.

    1. I wonder what sort of secrets their parents were keeping, and if that had anything to do with them dying at the same time. It seems odd that they would all be on a plane at the same time! I already have so many questions, and it's just the synopsis.

We had a blast at Legoland! The kids really loved it, and we loved seeing how happy they were. <3

    1. I've enjoyed some Spider-Man comics in the past, but I LOVE Tom Taylor! I'm really excited to see what he does with Peter Parker. It's a character that has been written about for years, and it's always interesting to see what changes or additions people make. Everyone has their own spin!

    1. I love that there's a mystery, too. I'm curious how the children will interact after all these years (and see where they're living after their parents die), but I'm also wondering what secrets their parents were keeping. It seems weird that they would all be on the same plane at the same time.

  5. That Oliver art is pretty snazzy! And I'm curious about the new Guardians of the Galaxy- I was just looking at an article somewhere the other day about the new line up.

    1. I think "snazzy" is a wonderful way to describe that cover! Yes, Jacob is really excited about the new Guardians of the Galaxy. We still don't know who died and who the replacement is going to be, although there are a lot of covers with Star Lord and Groot on the front. I'm assuming that means the two of them are okay, but it's likely one of the others is dead. Who do you think the new team member is going to be? Who do you think died?

  6. Well I haven't really been following most new Marvel stuff but I did see this article- just watch out for spoilers if you guys haven't read the new Guardians #1 yet. https://www.cbr.com/guardians-of-the-galaxy-new-team-revealed/

So I guess it reveals the new team? It's an interesting mix... I hope it works? Gamora is conspicuously absent!

  7. Interesting! Thanks for sharing that! The spoilers don't bother me, because I wasn't planning on reading it, haha. I did want to know who died though, and I was curious about the new team. It's insane! Jacob mentioned that Rocket was all over the place and drinking a lot, but he doesn't know why. I never thought he would leave Groot! They make the best team. :(

I know Gamora was responsible for folding the universe together (which is where the combined character issues came from, like Spider-Man/Moon Knight becoming Arachknight).

    2. Oh wow see I really am out of the loop! Although I think I remember you discussing those combo issues now that I think about it. I hope they don't ruin Groot! And I'm not sure what I think of Moondragon but Phylla-Vell might be cool, related as she is to the old Capt. Marvel. They've really changed the team!

    3. I only read the Spider-Man/Moon Knight combo, but there were A LOT. Groot looks...evil? Angry? Scary? At least on the one cover! I'm not familiar with anyone on the new team (with the exception of Groot and Star Lord). I'm a little miffed Rocket wasn't there, because he's sense of humor was one of my favorite things. I also love his relationship with Groot.
