My Weekly Pull [52] & Can't Wait Wednesday [22]

My Weekly Pull is something I do every Wednesday to show which comics I had pulled for me that week! If you're into comics, or you're looking to start, please join me! If you decide to do your own post, there's a link-up at the bottom. I would love to stop by and check it out!

Runaways #17 by Rainbow Rowell, Kris Anka
Uncanny X-Men #8 by Ed Brisson, R.B. Silva, Giuseppe Camuncoli, Pere Perez, Elizabeth Torque

Jacob's comics for the week!
Deadpool #8 by Skottie Young, Nic Klein
Infinity Wars Infinity #1 by Gerry Duggan, Mark Bagley, Mike Deodato
Man Without Fear #1 by Jed MacKay, Danilo Beyrouth, Kyle Hotz
Marvel Knights 20th #5 (of 6) by Donny Cates, Niko Henrichon, Kaare Andrews, Tini Howard, Damian Couceiro

...and from last week:
Uncanny X-Men #7 by Ed Brisson, Pere Perez, Elizabeth Torque

I know I missed last week's post, but we were in the middle of a move and I had to take a short break from blogging. However, because of the holidays, very few comics actually came out last week, which is why we only have the one Uncanny X-Men. This week I only have two, Uncanny X-Men and Runaways, and Jacob has a few others. Now I just need to find the time to read them... ๐Ÿ˜‰

Can't Wait Wednesday is a weekly event, hosted by Tressa at Wishful Endings, that highlights upcoming releases that we're anticipating and excited to read. It's a spinoff of the feature Waiting on Wednesday that was hosted by Jill at Breaking the Spine.

Fix Her Up (Hot & Hammered, #1)
by Tessa Bailey
Expected publication: June 11th 2019
Synopsis (via Goodreads): Georgette Castle’s family runs the best home renovation business in town, but she picked balloons instead of blueprints and they haven’t taken her seriously since. Frankly, she’s over it. Georgie loves planning children’s birthday parties and making people laugh, just not at her own expense. She’s determined to fix herself up into a Woman of the World... whatever that means.

Phase one: new framework for her business (a website from this decade, perhaps?)

Phase two: a gut-reno on her wardrobe (fyi, leggings are pants.)

Phase three: updates to her exterior (do people still wax?)

Phase four: put herself on the market (and stop crushing on Travis Ford!)

Living her best life means facing the truth: Georgie hasn’t been on a date since, well, ever. Nobody’s asking the town clown out for a night of hot sex, that’s for sure. Maybe if people think she’s having a steamy love affair, they’ll acknowledge she’s not just the “little sister” who paints faces for a living. And who better to help demolish that image than the resident sports star and tabloid favorite?

Travis Ford was major league baseball’s hottest rookie when an injury ended his career. Now he’s flipping houses to keep busy and trying to forget his glory days. But he can’t even cross the street without someone recapping his greatest hits. Or making a joke about his… bat. And then there's Georgie, his best friend’s sister, who is not a kid anymore. When she proposes a wild scheme—that they pretend to date, to shock her family and help him land a new job—he agrees. What’s the harm? It’s not like it’s real. But the girl Travis used to tease is now a funny, full-of-life woman and there’s nothing fake about how much he wants her...

I like it when characters pretend to date, or they're friends hanging out, and then they unexpectedly fall in love! They already have a relationship, so they know a little about each other, and then we get to see how their feelings grow in a romantic way. Ahh -- I cannot wait for this one! I haven't read a Tessa Bailey book before, but I've heard wonderful things about her stories.

  1. I like that cover of Uncanny #8! And Runaways! I just started season two of the show and so far so good!

I just read Domino Vol. 1 too and will be reviewing it sometime in January. I liked it, thanks for the recommendation!

    1. I still need to watch the Runaways television show! It's on Hulu, right? We just have Netflix, so I'm not sure what I'm going to do about that. Maybe buy them? See if I can rent them somewhere? I'll figure something out eventually, haha. Glad you're enjoying it!

Yay! I'm so happy you enjoyed Domino! It only gets better as the story goes. She also has one of those awful childhoods that really shaped the person she is today. You also see how her experiences had one outcome, while someone in a similar circumstance had another. Deadpool also pops up often, and you see the Totally Awesome Hulk. ;)

    2. You might be able to get a free trial to Hulu? They send me emails like weekly haha.

I am definitely along for the ride with Dom. I love her little posse- Outlaw cracks me up and Diamondback of course I know from before- she doesn't seem as fun loving and off the wall here but maybe that will come with time. Also I didn't know Amadeus Cho was a Hulk now?? But I liked seeing him, he was fun, and the deadpool appearances were funny too. Good stuff!

    3. Yes, but they still want your credit card information! I would probably forget to cancel the subscription before it started charging me every month, haha. It's how they get you! ;)

Outlaw seems to be the funny member of their group. Diamondback is more serious and really protective of her friends. I haven't seen a fun-loving side, but that doesn't mean she doesn't have one. They haven't really delved into her history yet. We saw how and when Outlaw joined the group (it was in the annual issue, I think), but Diamondback is still a mystery. Hopefully they have something good planned for her! Yes! Amadeus Cho is the Totally Awesome Hulk! Jacob read his comic briefly, but it was one we cut when we were trying to buy fewer comics. I'm really happy you're enjoying it! :)

    4. That's true. I think the first time I had them I got it, watched Handmaid's Tale in a week, and then canceled. Then they sent me ANOTHER free trial email, and I figured you could only get one so I deleted it- they kept sending- finally I gave in and signed up, figuring I'd get an error saying I already had my free trial, but nope. Free again lol. I did sign up for my third go- around as a paying customer though haha, I'm going to finish Runaways and cancel again- there isn't anything else on there I really watch.

I liked Outlaw! Diamondback always seemed more happy go lucky to me when she was dating captain America, but maybe she's changed.Maybe they'll develop her more in time... I hope so. I liked all the guest stars and having Shang-Chi in it was interesting- I didn't really know much about him.

    5. Hey, two free trials is awesome! I might do that and binge both seasons of Runaways! I just never remember to cancel those things... I would probably watch Dancing with the Stars, too. Oh! And I think Attack on Titan is on Hulu? I've been jonesing for the second season. It's anime, but I think you might like it! Really gruesome!

I adored Shang-Chi and all of the inappropriate thoughts she had about him. I think he was able to help her unlock her gift, or at least made her realize what triggers it. I'm anxious to see where the story is going to go from here.

    1. We're completely finished with the move! Phew! It was an exhausting ordeal that I'm not looking forward to doing again in the future. Alas, that is the life we live. :) Happy New year, Mary!

  5. Moves can be very chaotic, especially with little ones. When we moved we moved with two dogs and a two year old- and we were moving out of state.

I'm going to have to skip this week's Weekly pull, but I should be able to do next week's...hopefully.

    1. Our last move was from one state to another, and we had three kids! The twins were barely two months old, so that was fun. Our son was a little older, but still -- exhausting! We also have dogs and cats, heh. I completely understand the chaos and stress involved with uprooting and moving an entire family. I look forward to your MWP next week! <3

    2. Yes! We had some family friends wondering why it took us days to get there, and I was like you have no idea what it's like traveling with animals and small children all in the same car.

    3. Right?! Our families didn't understand why it took two full days for us to load the moving truck, but it was HARD. We barely stopped working the entire time, and it was exhausting. Then to travel with the kids, dogs, and moving truck -- aargh. So much stuff to keep track of!

    1. Nice! I haven't read any of the Star Wars comics, but I considered a new one that started today. I might change my mind later!

Yes! The move is thankfully over. Everyone is settling in, and we're finding a new routine. :)
