My Weekly Pull [39] & Can't Wait Wednesday [9]
(blog tour spotlight and giveaway)

My Weekly Pull is something I do every Wednesday to show which comics I had pulled for me that week! If you're into comics, or you're looking to start, please join me! If you decide to do your own post, leave a link in the comments. I would love to stop by and check it out!

Domino Annual #1 by Dennis Hopeless, Fabian Nicieza, Gail Simone, Leah Williams, Victor Ibanez, Leonard Kirk, Juan Gedeon, Natacha Bustos, Greg Land
Marvel Two-In-One #10 by Chip Zdarsky, Ramon K. Perez, Gerardo Zaffino
Moon Knight #199 by Max Bemis, Jacen Burrows, Becky Cloonan
X-Men Red #8 by Tom Taylor, Mahmud A. Asrar, Jenny Frison

Jacob's comics for the week!

Amazing Spider-Man
#6 by Nick Spencer, Ryan Ottley, Humberto Ramos
Peter Parker The Spectacular Spider-Man #310 Chip Zdarsky, Chris Bachalo
Punisher #2 by Matthew Rosenberg, Riccardo Burchielli, Greg Smallwood
Spider-Man Deadpool #39 by Robbie Thompson, Jim Towe, Dave Johnson
Venom First Host #5 by Mike Costa, Mark Bagley, Javier Garron

The synopsis for Domino's annual issue says that we should learn the "origin of Domino's posse," which I think is going to be really interesting! I've been curious about how these three became a team, and what happened to form such a strong friendship between them. I'm also wondering about Domino's relationship with Colossus... didn't he get married recently? Additionally it says, "Cable takes a bath," and I have no idea what that's supposed to mean. Oh! I'm excited to find out what the RejeX is going to be (this will be the first appearance)!

I don't think Ben and Johnny will ever find what they're looking for. Chip Zdarsky is going to break them emotionally before destroying them physically. Leave Ben alone, Chip! He's live a hard enough life, thank you. Don't even get me started on Johnny and his family issues... I really hope something lovely and magnificent happens to him soon.

Moon Knight is fighting a... I'm not really sure what. He crashed some super secret thing in the last issue, and I'm wondering if the monster on the cover is a direct result of that. It was one of Bemis's darker issues. He introduced people who enjoy hurting others, and one guy even makes "art" out of the bodies -- ack. My brain may never fully recover.

X-Men Red is beautiful. Tom Taylor's story might be fictional, but he includes really relevant information. Prejudice is still happening in our world today, whether people want to admit it or not, and I've enjoyed his comparisons. Nothing brings people together like giving them a shared focus, or a single thing to hate.

Can't Wait Wednesday is a weekly event, hosted by Tressa at Wishful Endings, that highlights upcoming releases that we're anticipating and excited to read. It's a spinoff of the feature Waiting on Wednesday that was hosted by Jill at Breaking the Spine

ME AND ME

Publisher: KCP Loft
Formats: Hardcover, Paperback, eBook
Pages: 248

It's a perfect day for Lark's dream date with Alec from school. Blue skies, clear water, a canoe on the lake. Alec even brought flowers for Lark's birthday. Everything is just right… until they hear screams from the edge of the water.

Annabelle, a little girl Lark used to babysit, is struggling in the reeds. When Lark and Alec dive in to help her, Alec hits his head on a rock. Now Annabelle and Alec are both in trouble, and L
ark can only save one of them.

With that split-second decision, Lark's world is torn in two, leaving her to cope with the consequences of both choices. She lives two lives, two selves. But which is the right life, and which is the real Lark?

Me and Me is about how it feels to be torn in pieces, and how to make two halves whole again. This mind-bending novel from Alice Kuipers, expert chronicler of the teenage heart, explores loss and love, music and parkour, all while navigating the narrow space between fantasy and reality.

  1. What a terrible choice to have to make...could be an interesting story.

    1. It's an impossible choice. How do you choose who gets to live and who gets to die? "But which is the right life, and which is the real Lark?" I think the author chose to tell this story in a very unique, fascinating way.

  2. I almost requested this book. It sounded interesting to me.

  3. What a unique title - very catchy. What a horrible decision the MC has to make!

    1. How would you choose?? She was forced to make an impossible decision, and then live with the consequences. "She lives two lives, two selves." I think that's a brilliant way to portray this story -- which version is real?

  4. Me and Me sounds interesting. Although I’m interested if the reference to Lark living two lives with two selves is just figurative or literal. Either way, sounds intriguing!

    1. At the moment she believes she's living parallel lives. In one she saves the girl and Alec is in a coma, and in the other the opposite is true. I can't really say more than that because I had to put the book down. I'm going to try picking it up again later to see if it's a mood thing! :)

  5. Me and Me sounds pretty incredible actually. I feel like it could be written with the dual timelines and be quite riveting.

    1. As of right now, "riveting" isn't the word I would use to describe this book. I've stepped away from it for now, because I want to see if it's me or if it's the book. I'll pick it back up in a few days! I was really excited about this one, too...

  6. I used to be really into comic books and manga when I was a teen but have fallen out of it because... TIME I barely have the time to even read anymore and it's sad.

Thanks for sharing this awesome post!

    1. What is time? Hah! I wish we had more of it in a day, though sometimes the days feel long enough as it is. There's just so much to do! I've been really enjoying comics lately. It's nice to have something else to read between books, and the illustrations are always so lovely!

    1. Have you read any of these comics? Which would you choose? The book was new to me as well, but I'm happy I stumbled across it. I started reading it the other day, but I'm having to set it aside for the moment. I'll try again later!

    1. Right? How do you decide which life is worth saving? I *think* I would try to save the child, but that's the mother in me. I'm not sure what I would have done at her age, and I'm glad I never had to make a decision like that. I hope I never have to.

  9. Wow, Me and Me sounds like a really emotional read. I'd definitely be interested in seeing both sides of the story.

    1. It hasn't been as emotional as I thought it would be, so I'm hitting pause for now. I want to give it a few days and then try again! Lark believes she's living parallel lives, but... hmm.

  10. Another amazing Domino cover. Is that diamondback I see? Always liked her. That's probably one I should be reading, even though I've never been a Cable fan. And Colossus??!? Ya I thought he married Kitty??

Moon Knight... wow. Looks dark. Looks like some kind of Chthulhu-oid thingie? Kinda a cool cover too...

Do you guys Netflix? I just finished Iron Fist season 2 and while it was just okay, Typhoid Mary was the BOMB.

    1. Yes! Diamondback is Domino's friend and teammate! So far it's only been Domino, Diamondback and Outlaw... I think Colossus and Cable are just going to be in this annual issue. Do you think either of them have anything to do with the RejeX? Do you have any idea what that is? They're supposed to make their first appearance, but have they existed before? In the first Domino issue, they hinted at Domino and Colossus having a previous relationship, but Neena even mentions something about him getting married (or dating). You should definitely be reading this one! Deadpool pops up every once in awhile to offer his unique brand of humor, and Amadeus Cho/Hulk was in an episode or two.

Moon Knight is always dark, it's just a question of HOW dark each issue will be, haha. I'm thinking this one might be darker than some of the others, but that's based on the content of the previous issue. It was, ah, graphic. Before this... his "villain" was a twisted dude that wanted to absorb everyone into this communal blob of nastiness. It was trippy and disgusting, but Marc is always entertaining. The cover is awesome!

We do Netflix! Unfortunately, we're still trying to get through S2 of Jessica Jones. Then we have Luke Cage and Iron Fist! Have you seen the new trailers for Daredevil?? It comes out in October, and Jacob said he wouldn't wait on me to watch it (DD is he main dude). I like the idea of Iron Fist, but I feel like his show has been poorly executed despite being comically accurate (is that a saying?). I'm happy to hear Typhoid Mary was awesome! I'll let you know when we get there... haha.

We're going to watch Venom on the 5th! It's Jacob's birthday and we're having a date night! We're going to a movie theater that's also like a bar... you have to be a certain age to get in, and they make you follow strict rules (drunken people get rowdy), but it should be a lot of fun. <3

  11. I'm not familiar with RejeX, so not sure. And I LOVE the idea of Domino and Diamondback being friends. I like how Diamond sorta vacillates between being a hero or villain. Yeah I need to get Domino. Especially if DBack is in it...

I do like that MK cover...MK's a funny one, cause I think he works better as a twisted kind of anti- hero maybe? IDRK, but when he's just a generic hero it doesn't seem like he's really unique enough? But I've never really thought his comics worked in the past I don't think they knew what to do with him? So maybe they've got someone who's (hopefully) figured him out?

I haven't seen the trailer for Daredevil yet, I will go check it out. I have high hopes. Love that show. Luke Cage S2 is boring me to tears, although I like Mike Colter as Cage- but his villains SUCK. I may not even finish it. Iron Fist IS poorly executed. They cast him all wrong. And his villain (Davos) sucks too. Typhoid though... that's my girl. Here's a peek. I love this! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TIoOMjllQt8

Have fun at Venom! I think there's more and more theaters and like that, and I hope we get one around here one of these days!

    1. Jacob was unfamiliar with the RejeX, too. He thinks it might have something do with Professor X's daughter (he listen to a lot of Marvel podcasts), but neither of us know. I guess that means it's a completely new concept? Normally they recycle old characters and give them new stories, so it's not often we see a brand new something.

Diamondback has been in Domino since the beginning! She's currently in a bit of a bind, so we'll see how that goes... Domino has been a mercenary in the past, too. I think she, Diamondback, and Outlaw have all played on both sides of the fence. They've worked for shady people, but they've also done a lot of good to balance that out.

I would say that's accurate! Moon Knight kills people (even the innocent ones that get in the way), and it also depends on which personality is present at the time. They each handle things in a different way when they're in control, and one is more violent than the rest. He's also been through A LOT of twisted shit that no one should ever experience. I've been enjoying his comics, and they're currently being written by Max Bemis. Believe it or not... he's the lead singer of a popular band. ;)

Daredevil is our favorite of all the shows. Jessica Jones is probably second, then Luke
Cage and Iron Fist. And while I might not like the last two individually, I did love it when all of them were in The Defenders together. Especially when JJ follows Matt as he follows her -- she even gets a picture of him! I also like it when she called his horns kitten/cat ears, which makes him get defensive. It's what I call them now, too, and Jacob gets sooo frustrated. <3

I watched that clip! Misty Knight has switched shows! Is she in Iron Fist and Luke Cage now, or just Iron Fist? I'm loving her new arm.

We're going to enjoy Venom while we get out Adult on! Hahaha!

    2. That's true! And I didn't even know X had a daughter! Yikes, I'm outta the loop...

I liked it when D'back was sorta dating Steve Rogers, that was fun although it was a while ago. And she was teamed up with some dude for a while- Constrictor maybe?- more recently but I don't know where that story ended. Again, I'm behind the times. :)

Ooh Moon Knight sounds a little like Typhoid Mary lol, with the multiple personalities! But if he kills innocents then yeah sounds like they've changed him up a bit. I'm glad it's working tho!

I think DD's the best show. It just seems the best made, and the fight scenes- I mean Hallway Fight I and II are like some of my favorite scenes from any show. SO well done. Iron Fist doesn't have any scenes in that league even though he's supposed to be one of the best martial artists in the world. The DD choreography team kills it. I thought Defenders was great, loved the battle in the Chinese restaurant, and yes Jessica following Matt! There are so many possibilities w/ them all together!

Misty's in both. I've seen her in Luke Cage S2 and she's pretty prominent in Iron Fist S2 also. I like her better in Iron Fist!

      Delete
    3. I didn't know he had a daughter either! I think in Astonishing X-Men one of villains was a son of his, or maybe his former lover's kid? I can't remember. I stopped enjoying that one and didn't really pay attention.

I'm very unfamiliar with Diamondback! This is the first time I've seen her in a comic. I love the idea of her dating Steve Rogers, and can see how that would be an interesting relationship. Why didn't it work out??

He has Dissociative Identity Disorder, so we actually get to see him conversing with the other versions of himself. I don't know if that's a new thing for him, or something his character has always had. He doesn't try to kill innocents, but it's not like he's looking after them when he's in the throes of battle. Spider-Man fights bad guys AND webs people to safety. Moon Knight doesn't really do that... plus, he's violent and enjoys it. He likes inflicting pain on his enemies, and doing it in a gruesome way. It's not just about stopping them, or capturing them, but inflicting pain, too.

Daredevil is easily the best, and I agree about Iron Fist! He's supposed to be awesome at fighting -- it's literally what he was trained to do -- yet they don't use that in his show. There are some fight scenes, yes, but nothing like what DD manages to accomplish. I really loved his interactions with Frank Castle! Those two... man. DD wants to save people and Frank just want to kill everyone. I thought their opposing personalities made for an interesting story. I like the guy that plays Frank Castle, and I think his show is accurate, but it's a tad too gruesome for me. Love that Karen is sometimes in it!

Misty is great -- one of my favorites. I think the person playing here does a wonderful job. I hope she's involved with the Defenders at some point. :)

      Delete
    4. I really loved the Defenders fight scene when they're trying to get out of the building... they work so well together, even though they just met. Their powers are so unique, but really efficient when combined. Oh, and when Jessica commented on her scarf around his head?? Hahaha.

      Delete
    5. I'm not actually sure why they broke up? Ok I'm curious so I just Wiki'd it and apparently after dating they just moved on, I guess? She ended up in a relationship with Constrictor later. still, I liked the two of them as dating, especially since it kinda involved Cap with the serpent Society, and always tested Rachel's loyalties. :)

"He likes inflicting pain" lol yeah he sounds a little edgy. Which I think he was always meant to be, honestly? I think the multiple personalities thing does go way back to his origin too, if I'm not mistaken. I just never read his comic enough to ever really know all his details?

I agree about DD and Frank. Very intense relationship, and Karen showing up in Frank's show is pretty awesome. I only watched the first episode of Punisher though, I heard it was super violent and just kinda okay, so I never continued. Iron Fist should have the best fight scenes, I agree! They really needed someone with martial arts experience in that role...

Misty is one of the best castings of Marvel Netflix! She's awesome.

    6. Oops, forgot the second one. Yes I'd like to see DD and JJ work together more, or guest star. They had some fun banter! Even Cage and Danny worked well together, considering. The four of them could be pretty explosive! And am I the only one who likes his headscarf look the best? I think it makes him more badass. lol

      Delete
    7. I think there should be more stories with Cap and Diamondback! When was the last time they did a comic with The Serpent Society? It's been awhile, right? I love that Domino, Diamondback, and Outlaw always teeter on the edge of good and bad. They play both sides, which isn't something your normally see in "hero" comics.

He admits to enjoying the feel of someone's skin breaking beneath his fists, so yeah... he enjoys it, haha. I'm new to Moon Knight, though Jacob has read most of his older stuff. I find it to be weirdly fascinating, and hard to stop reading once you start.

I made it through the entire first season of Punisher, and loved Frank's character, but the violence *is* intense. I don't want to see that... ugh. Jacob has watched the second season, but he just gives me the highlights. Karen helps Frank on occasion, and they care about each other, but he still loves his dead wife... so complicated.

There are a lot of comics with The Iron Fist and Power Man(?). I think Luke and Danny work well together, especially when they were fighting! They were both so surprised by the other's abilities -- heh. I thought the headscarf was hilarious, but not practical. It could come off too easily while fighting, especially against The Hand. I prefer his yellow costume, but they haven't used that one! Did you ever get around to watching the trailer for DD S3??

      Delete
    8. Sounds like they're capturing D'back's personality just right! She was always on that edge of right and wrong, you know? Same w/ Domino. I would LOVE to see Cap and D'back get back together, or at least adventure together. They do make a pretty awesome team. :)

And I don't know when the serpent Society last appeared, but I always like them too! Viper was always a favorite villain of mine.

Wow okay Moon Knight haha. Sounds like he definitely has some issues. :)

IF and Luke did the whole Heroes for Hire thing, are you familiar with that? They actually go way back in a lot of ways. I've only read a little of it though, mostly Iron Fist's old solo comics (which are very much a product of their time- older comics, you know- but they have some cool ideas). IF was way more serious (and badass) than the Danny we get on the show! And yes I did watch the trailer! Kingpin is back! I'm not sure how I feel about that? I think he's cast and played very well, but I'd like to see some different DD villains too? But I'm just geeked it's almost back. :)

      Delete
    9. I love the heroes that straddle the line, because it makes them feel more human. Yes, they still have powers, but they struggle to always do the right thing -- just like people. The heroes that never make mistakes, that always choose right over wrong, there's something untouchable about them. It makes them hard to relate to.

Viper was the main villain in Hunt for Wolverine Mystery in Mardripoor! It's only four issues, so you could totally swing that.

Moon Knight has a lot of issues, but he had a really terrible childhood. He saw things no child should ever have to see, or even think about existing in the world. He also has all the different personalities that he fights for control with (sometimes they willingly share, other times it's a struggle). He's lost weeks, months, years of his life not realizing another version of himself was in control.

I remember Heroes for Hire! They always make Luke look like a guy from the 70s, but he's very modern on the TV show. Claire is one of my favorite people, too. I love that she's in almost all of the shows, but I'm curious to see how she interacts with Jessica on a one-on-one basis. I know they met briefly at the hospital, right? But I might be overlapping shows...

Danny doesn't feel badass to me. It's almost like he's surprised with himself every time he fights someone. Like he can't believe he just did that? I want him to feel more confident and know he has the ability to kick some major ass. I would also like for the show to revisit the dragon he received his powers from. Seeing the skeleton in the Defenders was awesome, but barely touched upon. Kingpin! His suit is the wrong color, yes? Doesn't he always wear white? I feel like it's something different in the trailer... I'm sure we'll get more DD villains, but right now Iron Fist has taken over the role of Daredevil (since they all thought he was crushed beneath the rubble in Defenders), and DD has been recovering with the nuns (right?). It seems like Matt is in a really dark place right now, so that might be why they're keeping Kingpin around instead of introducing a new villain. Danny hasn't had to deal with Kingpin before, so that might be new, and I don't think DD is mentally ready to have to fight someone else. At least Kingpin is familiar. I don't know! They try not to follow the comics too closely, so people won't expect certain things. It's hard to predict what they will do.

      Delete
    10. Ooh I love Viper so that's good to know. That might sway me to get that trade for sure. :) And wow Moon Knight sounds just like Typhoid Mary, kinda. With her multiple personalities- I think there's three? Sounds like he has more? And she started as a DD villain (I think) but for whatever reason they're using her in Iron Fist's show. Maybe because they already have Kingpin making Matt's life miserable lol.

Yeah 70's Luke looks crazy! Good grief. :) Thank goodness they cast him well with Mike Colter. I'd love to see an updated Heroes for Hire with him and IF sharing each other's shows, but I don't know if they will (and Danny just sucks, which is so too bad). And I'm trying to remember if Claire and Jessica met, but I'm not sure? I THINK they did?

Exactly about Danny. I won't spoil Iron Fist S2 if you haven't seen it yet, but I don't feel like that show helped? He really needs to be more badass. I loved him in the comics. And absolutely- we need to see Shou Lao the dragon. That would be AWESOME. Davos is lame too, in the comics he was steel Serpent and was pretty badass as well, in the show he's just... annoying. The whole K'un-Lun thing really, on the show, they don't know what to do with, and I think they're afraid of making it hokey so they just never go there lol. I hated how they changed his origin. The plane crash was lame, I liked his original beginning better, with his mom defending him from wolves right on K'un-Lun's doorstep. So much better.

I LOVE the nun angle- that's one thing from the comics they did right by keeping. DD is great with angst so I'm really glad they're taking him to those dark places. I wonder if they'll bring Bullseye in- and is Elektra truly dead or did the Hand resurrect her? I think she's out there, isn't she??

      Delete
    11. Hmm, maybe they're using her in Iron Fist's show because he's supposed to be covering for Daredevil right now? He's taking care of DD's city while he recovers, but I'm not sure Danny knows he's recovering. I think he just feels bad that the city lost its hero.

He has three human personalities, and one Egyptian god. It's crowded in there when they're all vying for control, but they usually work things out. Sometimes they fight each other internally, but also physically... if that makes sense, haha.

Mike Colter is a pretty, pretty person. <3

Claire and Jessica meet when Jess takes Luke to the hospital. She just picks him up like he weighs nothing, and Claire can't pierce his skin with a needle. She ends up going through his eye, remember?

Yes, no spoilers! I still want to watch it so I have a better idea of what you're referring to. Shou Lao just sounds like an awesome thing to talk about! We've only seen his skeleton, but I want to see him fighting Danny and previous Iron Fists. How does that work again? Every time an Iron Fist is created, he dies and is reborn? I can't remember. I forgot Davos was the Steel Serpent! Do they touch on that at all in S2? I think the plane crash insults the fact that his mother died to save him. Also, when she was fending off wolves, where was everyone else?? Surely they had to sense her coming, or hear her fighting once she arrived. They've visited the outskirts of K'un--Lun briefly, but with very little details. I wish we could tour the area and see where he trained, etc. There's like 3-4 episodes right there. Flashbacks would be cool, too.

Truth -- nuns for the win. Daredevil is sooo angsty! It's the first time I've really seen him go dark, because he's usually looking for the positives. He wants to take people out, but hand them over to the police. He never fights to kill, only to defend and protect. I'm curious how S3 will change his perspective on the world.

Bullseye would be an interesting villain! It would definitely shake things up. I never think anyone is truly dead. :)

      Delete
    12. Oh that could be. I'd LOVE to see Typhoid show up in DD, that would be AWESOME. I like that Turk keeps showing up all over too, Typhoid meets him in IF S2. :)

Ha "crowded in there" lol. I imagine it is!

Oh yeah that's right. Ack how did I forget? through the eye though...man that's twitchy!

Shou Lao is immortal apparently, so when the Iron Fist kills him he's reborn again I guess- so yeah? We definitely need to see more of him. Unfortunately we don't see him in S2. they do show Danny's fight against Davos though that resulted in him being the winner. And no they don't really call him Steel Serpent or do much with that- I was kinda bummed. And I agree, the original was better w/ the wolf thing. Meachum killed Danny's dad but Danny's mom and him fled, and after wandering they finally found K-un-Lun, but wolves were chasing them and his mom threw herself into their midst to give Danny time to cross the bridge. Archers from K'un-Lun showed up and finished off the wolves. I always thought it was a very powerful origin, with danny seeing his mom sacrifice herself like that.

And yes I want to see K-un-Lun! I agree, although I have an image in my minds eye and they probably wouldn't match. :)

Frank Miller's take on DD is probably where the angst became so associated with the character. I mean his stories are kinda dated now but the issues where he fights the Hand for Elektra's soul- powerful stuff. And Born Again was pretty awesome, which it sounds like they're sorta adapting partially? If so it could be good stuff!
