State of the ARC [3]

This is a new meme started over at Avalinah’s Books for tracking your ARC progress. I actually really love this idea and think it will help me better manage my current reads!

At the end of July 2018:

Phoenix Unbound (Fallen Empire #1) by Grace Draven
I Do Not Trust You by Laura J. Burns & Melinda Metz
The Raging Ones (The Raging Ones #1) by Krista Ritchie & Becca Ritchie

Rule (Rule #1) by Ellen Goodlett
Josh and Hazel's Guide to Not Dating by Christina Lauren
Keeper of the Bees (Black Birds of the Gallows) by Meg Kassel

I used July to get caught up on my review copies, and I'm very happy with the results! I'm pretty prepared for August, and I even went back and read some of the books that were missed the last few months. I can't promise things will stay this way, but I'm definitely going to try!

I think I'm most excited for Christina and Lauren's Josh and Hazel's Guide to Not Dating. I really enjoyed Autoboyography, and I hope this one makes me smile just as often. I've seen Keeper of the Bees around, and I think the reviews have been mostly positive. The others sound really interesting...

Which book would you read first? I need suggestions!

  1. Looking forward to seeing what you think of Josh and Hazel's Guide to Not Dating. I recently read my first of theirs, Love and Other Words, but I don't read contemporary romance a whole lot so I skipped out on getting a review copy of their newest. I have too many as it is, I should be participating in this too to light a fire under me. lol

    1. Ohhh, I haven't read Love and Other Words, but I believe I have a copy... somewhere...

Yes! This is such a wonderful feature that helps me focus on what I need to read and when. <3 If you decide to try it, let me know! I'd love to check out your post.

  2. Rule looks super pretty, the cover is making me think of Heartless by Marissa Meyer, Lol.

    1. I can see that! I also really loved Heartless, so I'm hoping Rule is just as good. :)

  3. I haven’t heard of any of these but they all look good.

    1. I'm a little iffy on The Raging One, because spacey/future books are always hit or miss with me. It has an interesting premise, so we'll see!

  4. I did read 2 of them and enjoyed a lot!

  5. I'm glad to hear you are facing August fully prepared :) I am actually quite out of the loop right now, so I haven't even heard of any of these books :D but The Keeper of Bees has an amazing cover, if that's any criterion xD haha :D good luck with the reading stats this month!

    1. I've been visiting family, so I understand being out of the loop. I took my iPad to try and get some reading done while we were gone, but I think I read 10 pages. I'm sooo behind on everything right now, even after saying I was on track--hah! I'm still okay as far as review books go, but I lost my lead and blog stuff is stacking up. I'm glad I remembered to schedule these posts in advance and thought to add my URL to your site!

I'm coming back to your blog to leave a comment! Pinky promise. <3

  6. Gosh, I wish I had signed up too. I currently have over forty unsolicited review copies and just getting over chronic tonsilitis and fallen months behind. Based on the cover and title, I'd go with Rule. I love kingdom and royal type fantasy, I'll have to check it out. Good luck with this month's reading Linds, looking forward to picking up some new reads ♡♡♡

    1. Forty unsolicited review copies? Eep! It's because you're so awesome. Everyone wants you to read their books. ;)

Chronic tonsillitis?? Ouch! I can see how that would effect your reading. I don't think I would want to do much of anything. I hope you're feeling better!

I was leaning towards Rule and Josh and Hazel's Guide to Not Dating. <3

  7. I hope The Raging Ones is good, I just saw a review for it over at Kristen's earlier. And I Do Not Trust You is new to me but I'm SUPER curious because I loved their book Sanctuary Bay. I definitely need to look this one up!

    1. Ohh, I haven't read Sanctuary Bay! The authors are new-to-me as well, so I'm going to trust your judgement! I think I saw Kristen's review for The Raging Ones... a week or so ago? I'll double check.

    2. I liked Sanctuary Bay a lot. Boarding school, on a remote island, strange experiments...

    3. That sounds fascinating... I have a fondness for boarding school settings. I'm not sure why that is. I think it's because kids act differently when they're away from their parents, even if it's at a boarding school. We get to see different personalities and how they choose to live on their own (mostly).

  8. So glad you are organized for August! I feel like I need a bit of organization is I want to read all those ARCs that are overdue. But good job to you!

    1. I think this feature is a great way to keep with overdue ARCs! That was my original plan when I started joining in, but I quickly realized that the ARCs I missed were the same month after month, because it's like once I miss their pub date, the need to read and review it becomes less important. I'm still going to get to them, it's just going to take a little time! Choosing to highlight the new books I've received gives this post more variety (in my case), and shows what books I have coming up. I've been really good about staying on top of things the last few months, so I hope to continue that trend! <3

  10. I have a review copy of Phoenix Unbound and can't wait to get started with it. A couple of the other books are familiar but I haven't seen any reviews for them yet. I am so behind with my arc pile. I am slowly working to get caught up but it is a very slow process and I grabbed way too many books to read when I wasn't feeling well. I hope you enjoy all of these!

    1. I tend to grab way too many books on a regular basis, haha. I've been really trying to cut back until I've caught up, but it's so hard! I want to read everything and just cannot squeeze them all in. Audiobooks have been a tremendous help and allow me to listen to books when I'm cleaning or driving, but it only makes a dent. I hope you're feeling better! <3

Phoenix Unbound is one I've been looking forward to for awhile, so I hope it doesn't disappoint!

  11. I hope you enjoy Keeper of Bees. I read the first one and it was so unique. I'm really looking forward to this one as well. I need to be an arc reading beast for a few months - it would definitely help my situation!

    1. I haven't read the first one, but was told I didn't need to for it to make sense. They should both be okay to read solo, right? Would you recommend I read them in order?

I tried to only read ARCs during the month of July and made a little progress, but then we went on vacation and I'm back where I started. I always plan on reading even when I'm gone, but it never works. I don't know why!

  12. Congrats on catching up! I hope August is a little more relaxed for you because of it :) The only ARC on your list that I've also read is Rule, and it wound up only being so-so for me. There have been a lot of excellent fantasy novels released this year, so I think competition is particularly stiff. Good luck with your August reads!

    1. I've seen a lot of so-so reviews for Rule, but I'm still excited to try it! I guess I'll find out where I stand once I start. ;)

  13. I have heard great things about Josh and Hazel's Guide to Not Dating! I want to read Rule soon too, it looks good. The Raging Ones didn't work out great for me, but I have seen other really positive reviews so I am hoping you'll like it! And good work catching up, that is fabulous!

    1. I cannot wait to start Josh and Hazel's Guide to Not Dating (phew, long title). I keep seeing lukewarm reviews for Rule, but I still think it might be what I read next. I've been hesitant about The Raging Ones since I accepted it for review... sci-fi hasn't always been my go-to genre, but I liked the premise. I guess we'll see!

    1. If only I could completely catch up... think of all the time I'd have! There are a few books I've been wanting to re-read, but I wanted to get back up to 80% on NetGalley.

  15. ahh that is so awesome that not only did you do well you also got some of the backlog sorted!!

    1. Yes! I really felt like I accomplished something, haha. I hope I can keep knocking out the ARCs that were left unread. I want to have a clean slate before fall! I know there are a lot of wonderful books being released then, so I don't want to have any other obligations. :)
