My Weekly Pull [34]

My Weekly Pull is something I do every Wednesday to show which comics I had pulled for me that week! If you're into comics, or you're looking to start, please join me! If you decide to do your own post, leave a link in the comments. I would love to stop by and check it out!

Amazing Spider-Man #4 by Nick Spencer, Ryan Ottley
Hunt for Wolverine Mystery in Madripoor #4 (of 4) by Jim Zub, Thony Silas, Giuseppe Camuncoli
Venom #5 by Donny Cates, Ryan Stegman

Wakanda Forever Avengers #1 by Nnedi Okorafor, Oleg Okunev, Yasmine Putri
West Coast Avengers #1 by Kelly Thompson, Stefano Caselli
X-Men Red #7 by Tom Taylor, Mahmud A. Asrar, Jenny Frison

Jacob's comics for the week!
Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles #85 by Tom Waltz, Brahm Revel, Kevin Eastman
Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles Bebop and Rocksteady Hit The Road #4 by Ben Bates, Dustin Weaver, Kyle Strahm
Hit-Girl #7 by Jeff Lemire, Eduardo Risso
Daredevil #607 by Charles Soule, Phil Noto
Punisher #1 by Matthew Rosenberg, Riccardo Burchielli, Frank Cho

West Coast Avengers is finally out! I love Kelly Thompson, and she's bringing back Kate Bishop (Hawkeye) and Clint Barton (Hawkeye). There's also Gwenpool! (I read her comic until it ended a few months ago.) I'm really excited about this one, and I hope it lives up to my expectations. I'm not as familiar with the other characters, but I think one of them is from All-New Hawkeye. We didn't know he had powers until the last issue, so it was an interesting surprise.

Hunt for Wolverine Mystery in Madripoor is on its last issue. This was by far my favorite Hunt for Wolverine series, and I cannot wait to see how their story concludes. They're a powerful group of women with a common goal, so I'm sure things will end with a bang!

Venom looks like a gargoyle.

What about you? Are you reading any awesome comics this week? Do any of these look interesting?

    1. It is! It's only four issues, so it wouldn't be hard for you to find. <3

  2. How fun and I love that you do this with your son (I hope I have that right!).

    1. Jacob is my husband! I include his list every week because I might read them eventually. I want to finish reading what I have before starting something new. For example... I'm reading the older Venom series right now, and when I finish I want to start the recent Daredevil. It's just that those have been ongoing for awhile, so it's a lot to take on at once. It was also easier to just include the images for what I'm currently reading, instead of what we are both reading (like I used to).

We do read some of these with our son! TMNT and Transformers mostly.

  3. I am captivated by the covers. The action just leaps out especially the ominous tone of X-Men Red.

    1. X-Men Red has been amazing! There are so many correlations to what's happening in the world today, and I think a lot of people will benefit from reading the story. It's also awesome! It deals a lot with hate and how easy it is for people to blame what's different. Different is scary, so it's easier to just get rid of it -- Jean and her team are trying to show everyone that it's not okay to think that way, and you shouldn't be afraid of something just because it's unknown.

    1. Do you have a favorite movie? Character? I'm partial to Hawkeye and Guardians of the Galaxy.

    1. I think that's the only episode of The Simpsons I've ever seen, haha. Doesn't he walk the pig along the ceiling? "Spider Pig! Spider Pig! Does whatever a spider pig does!" ;)

  6. Mystery in Madripoor #4 has me curious cause I just read an article over at io9 about how they're changing Psylocke back to her old English form, which good grief is long overdue. So I'm hoping that will be good! Plus Jim Zub is interesting, he wrote the Wayward series if I'm not mistaken, which explores Japanese creature mythology. I only read a few issues.

West Coast Avengers looks fun! And yay for Kate/ Clint!

    1. I wasn't even aware she had more than one form. I've only recently started encountering her in comics like Astonishing X-Men and Hunt for Wolverine Mystery in Madripoor. What other comics have you read with Psylocke? How did you feel about Olivia Munn playing her in the movies? I'm not familiar with Jim Zub's other work... What is the Wayward series about other than the Japanese mythology?

I cannot wait to start West Coast Avengers! I think it's going to be light and fun -- just what I need. <3

    2. Psylocke was originally English and the sister of Capt. Britain, somewhere along the line she got changed into a Japanese person. She was in Uncanny X-Men for a long time. I always liked her and her psychic knife ability. Here's a link to her early appearance- taking on Sabretooth w/ Wolverine. Art is hokey but it's good stuff.

Here's a link to Wayward Vol 1. Love the cover w/ all the cats! It's about a girl who goes to Japan to live and discovers she has powers and encounters others who do too. The art is great but I got a little bored with it around Vol 2 or so. Jim Zub apparently lived in Japan or something, so he had some knowledge of the folklore and used that I think? https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/23622918-wayward-vol-1

    3. Oops- here's the Psylocke link. https://lowbrowcomics.com/2015/04/09/wolverine-vs-sabertooth-2/

Oh and Olivia Munn? I thought she was good in the role, I just wish she had had more to do. I thought Meiling Melancon was good too, and may have even looked more the part. They just didn't use her enough.

    4. Thanks for the links! I'll definitely check those out.

I wasn't aware of the change in Psylocke... did they ever say why they altered her so drastically? Was there even a reason, or was it something they just did? I think I read something about a new Uncanny X-Men coming out, and this one should feature the English version you mentioned. She appeared to be English in the Hunt for Wolverine Mystery in Madripoor, too. I could be wrong...

Okay, so this is going to be completely random, but do you play Contest of Champions? It's an app that my husband and I are addicted to. It's a Marvel game where you collect different characters and use them to battle other people (never IRL, but computerized versions of someone else's team). There are also quests and battles! It's unbelievably addicting. You can also join an Alliance and work as a team in certain areas. If you don't have it, and you do start... keep anyone that has a 2-star rating and up. Those 2-star characters will double up and offer you more experience and bonus stuff. It's something we figured out a little later in the game, and it would have been nice to know early on. If you do already play the game, isn't it awesome?!

Are those cats haunted?? Why do they look so creepy? I added it to my Goodreads TBR so I can check it out later -- thanks for the link! I think it's neat that Jim Zub lived in Japan (or something, lol) and applied his experiences to his stories. Obscure folklore is some of my favorite!

    5. Oh, and Contest of Champions is total free -- zero adds. Win-win!

    6. I think I read that the Psylocke change was supposed to be temporary, then Chris Claremont left the book and they never... changed her back lol? Don't know if that's true. And yes there is a new Uncanny coming out- I hope it's good!!

I have never played it! Didn't even know about it, but now... ha ha I will be looking it up! Sounds awesome! And thanks for the tip. :)

I'm not sure if they're haunted, TBH I don't remember a lot except a lot of folklore monsters showing up. It wasn't bad, art was good but I think I only read the first volume...

    1. I've really enjoyed the issues so far! There were three total... The Amazing Spider-Man, X-Men, and Avengers. They can be read individually or as a whole. I've only read the Spider-Man issue and still need to get to the other two. :)

  8. I love the Wakanda Forever. Such striking art. I'm going to have to keep my eyes open for this one.

    1. There will only be three issues (The Amazing Spider-Man, X-Men, and Avengers), so they shouldn't bee too hard to find/grab! It's been a really interesting story so far. The villain is personal to Black Panther and the Dora Milaje.
