My Weekly Pull [33]

My Weekly Pull is something I do every Wednesday to show which comics I had pulled for me that week! If you're into comics, or you're looking to start, please join me! If you decide to do your own post, leave a link in the comments. I would love to stop by and check it out!

Magic Order #3 by Mark Millar, Olivier Coipel, Tommy Lee Edwards
Hunt for Wolverine Claws of a Killer #4 (of 4) by Mariko Tamaki, Butch Guice, Geoff Shaw

Jacob's comics for the week!
Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles Bebop and Rocksteady Hit the Road #3 (of 5) by Ben Bates, Dustin Weaver, Ryan Browne
Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles Urban Legends #4 by Gary Carlson, Frank Fosco, Kevin Eastman
Cable Deadpool Annual #1 by David F. Walker, Paco Diaz, Rob Liefeld
Deadpool Assassin #5 (of 6) by Cullen Bunn, Mark Bagley, Dave Johnson
Infinity Wars #2 (of 6) by Gerry Duggan, Mike Deodato
Peter Parker The Spectacular Spider-Man #308 by Chip Zdarsky, Chris Bachalo

Only two comics for me this week! I might eventually read some of the Deadpool and Spider-Man comics that Jacob's reading right now, but sometimes Deadpool can be a little... much. There are also a ton of Spider-Man-related comics out there, and I'm happy with my Amazing Spider-Man Renew Your Vows and the new The Amazing Spider-Man

Magic Order is dark. I'm still not sure how I feel about it after two issues. The story is engaging and similar to watching a murder mystery unfold. We already know who the bad guys are, but we still have to watch as they kill off (at least) three people per issue. It's insanity! Not to mention the ways in which they die... writers can get pretty creative when magic is involved. Speaking of creative, this was the only, er, clothed cover for this week's issue (just in case any of you go searching for this series).

Hunt for Wolverine Claws of a Killer is wrapping up with this final issue. I've been disappointed with how the writer has chosen to portray Daken within this series. Throughout the first three issues, Daken is an ass and often makes petty, childish comments. The Daken I knew previously (All-New Wolverine by Tom Taylor) was sweet and wore feminist t-shirts that were too small for him (Gabby's -- his clothes kept ripping off, hah). Regardless, I never thought he and the others would stumble across zombies. It's been trippy -- especially after the small revelation in the last issue.

As of yesterday, I was completely caught up on all of my comics, and it shouldn't take me too long to read these two, so yay! Hopefully I can stay on top of these so I can finish the Venom series I started ages ago. I want to finish reading the older run before starting the new one by Donny Cates.

Are you reading any new comics this week? Any old ones you think I'd like? Let me know!

  1. The cover of Magic Order is kind of creepy/foreboding. And I had to laugh that it's the only clothed cover. Um, wow... LOL

    1. You should have seen the other one... haha! I'm not sure if it's the same one repeated throughout the cover, or multiple women all wearing the same face mask, but they are ALL over each other (in every way possible). Everything is artfully covered -- an arm here, or a leg there -- but the message is clear.

  2. Nude comic covers? I need to get in on some of this. I love dark stories but I can't imagine how that would translate into a.comic though, are the illustrations of the deaths pretty graphic? Nice work on getting up to date Linds, all the more time to explore new reads now ♡♡

    1. The cover doesn't show any sensitive bits, but they're clearly naked and licking each other. I'm really not sure what's going on... an orgy, maybe? They're all naked except for a creepy face mask. The inner illustrations are graphic, but not overly so. There's just a lot of death so far, and in really creative ways.

  3. Magic Order looks interesting, not sure if I'd like it being that dark but hmm

    1. It's not too bad, but even the artwork is done in muted, darker colors. There's a foreboding feeling hanging on every page, and you're left waiting to see how the next person is going to die, who it's going to be, etc. I think in the end only the family is going to remain, but that's just a guess! There's a brother that doesn't want to be involved, but I'm assuming something will happen to someone he cares about to make him rejoin the group. The daughter, Cordelia, saved herself from her own abortion and was later adopted by the man who wanted to abort her -- it's dark for more reasons than just death. It deals with some deeper issues that the characters are struggling with. One has lost a child in the past (don't know how or why)… so I'm curious where the author will take their individual stories and the comic as a whole.

  4. I like the cover for Magic Order. If I read comics I think they would be the dark ones.

  6. Magic Order I'm not familiar with, but the only clothed cover? Okay then lol. It does sound pretty dark. Zombies huh? I don't know a lot about Daken other than he's Wolverine's son? Sounds like the other Daken version was more fun tho. :)

    1. Magic Order is about a magician family and magic users as a whole. They've been protecting the world from literal monsters (big, scary things that creep around undetected) for generations. Humans are unaware of their sacrifices and remain oblivious to the magic around them. However, one bad apple has gathered other rotten magic users to wreck havoc on the rest of the group. She's slowly killing them off (really terrible ways, too) to get some book... not sure where that's going. I think only one family is going to be left in the end, because they keep killing everyone else off.

Zombies! So creepy... they were able to harm the self-healers and regenerators, and at one point Daken was like, "Huh, so this is what internal bleeding feels like." Lol! Tom Taylor's Daken was way more fun, this one is a jerk and has some serious Daddy issues.

    1. I am giddy with excitement when I'm caught up on everything! If I have all the housework and other odds and ends done by the time the kids go to bed at night -- I might weep with joy. It gives me more time to read and catch up on blogging stuff. If I'm caught on in life and on the blog... I wouldn't know what to do with myself. ;)
